Post Which Paul Gilbert?
If you had a time machine that could take you to see Paul Gilbert's solo act (because Racer X is the assumed 1st choice) at any point in his career, when would it be?

For my, right after the release of Silence. HOLY SHART that album killed.
Also reminded me of a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEq75Q8FRnM
I swear I hear a violin at 4:25.

I don't really like SFBADR..

If I had to pick a Paul Gilbert phase, I'd pick the late 90's/ early 00's. That's when Racer X got back together, and when he released Aligator Farm and Burning Organ.

He had killer tone at that time with the Laneys, and he was really into shredding like crazy.

Maybe the 2007 tour? You can find these absolutely awesome videos from Paris gig. I'd want to be on that gig.

Wrong. The show you would want to see from that tour is the Dudley show. Trust me, I've been there

I think I'd just like to see him perform today.
I like lots of songs from all the albums so why would I want to miss some of the newer ones like Screen Door or Plastic Dracula?
As long as the show mixes in some RacerX stuff with the solo stuff, I'm happy.

Or I could just go see Mr. Big and be happy.

You know, I changed my mind. I actually would like to attend one of his lessons at MI back in the 80's. I have some of the audio recordings and the licks he played were INSANE. I've never heard him play any of these live or even on the albums.

And I always loved this video as an example of that awesome vibrato that sounds a bit like violin:

Agree 100%. I have a few bootlegged shows from those shows and the tone is amazing and the large band is killer with awesome jams and harmonies.

I thought Paul was on fire on his recent tours - he picked some awesome surprises... Paul vs Godzilla!!! One to many covers for me for it to be perfect, but the show was still incredible.
