Post The Marshall Vintage Modern has had enough love...
(this of course relates to Paul, and his choice of amps)

It is time for a little bit of a change, and that change is to the JMD:1.

"03/2011 - Paul Gilbert tours with JMD:1"

http://www.marshallamps.com/resources/n ... s_news.asp

"Paul's amp of choice at the moment is the innovative and revolutionary JMD:1. An amp he can been seen using both on and off the stage.
Paul Gilbert along with the rest of his band, Mr Big, will be embarking on a world tour next month, kicking off in Hollywood, California."

The Marshall Blog Japan first reported on this after Mr. Big's "Live From The Living Room" secret show in Tokyo. So we've had a little while to warm up to the idea. :)
To my ears, listening through the cameras of front row fans, he had *fantastic* rich, warm tone on the Yellow Matter Custard mini-tour.
Is this a good switch? Sure. Check for yourselves - look up any of the YMC '11 videos on YouTube and give them a good listen. I bet the DVD that Mike Portnoy releases will have a much clearer sonic picture, but a lot of people won't want to wait. :)
The Mr. Big world tour a giant monster, with as much exposure as Pablo gave to the Vintage Modern for 2008-2010. (Eric Martin said, in the MetalSucks Ramble, something along the lines of... their manager is trying to get them out on the road for more then a year - that's huge!)

Just to prove that all I quit doing was tracking Paul - I didn't quit being a dork:
They need a good proofer. That's a 6 sentence article. Every word should be perfect.
He can been seen?
How about 'He has been seen' or 'He can be seen'
& ... So is it Mr Big or Mr. Big? I've seen it displayed both ways.

Followup - here are those links from the MBJ:

http://www.marshallamps.jp/html_site/jmd1_paul.html
http://blog.marshallamps.jp/blog/2011/0 ... e-fro.html
http://blog.marshallamps.jp/blog/2011/03/jmd1-8d8d.html

They are in order from first to most recent.
They're in Japanese, of course... use Babelfish, GoogleTranslate, etc. to read.

Side note, while thinking of Japan: Wishing the country a swift recovery! Prayers & positive thoughts sent to all of those affected by the huge earthquake and tsunami there today. It looks quite bad and very scary.

Well, then again he did play some Marshalls on clinics whenever the Laneys weren't available so it's not ALL false...

But damn, that Laney tone was sweet.

he might just plays that JMD:1 with Mr. Big, YMC etc. where he's mostly accompanying vocals
and for his intrumental guitar stuff he might bring the VM again

He also used a Mesa Boogie for one clinic, and a Hiwatt at one of the Amazing Journey shows. I'm sure we can find many examples of Paul playing other amps if we try.

It doesn't matter that much he can make pretty much any amp sound good.

I always thought the Marshall tone he was getting at these clinics was the most shite out of them all :D

I've seen him rock a solid state Crate back in the day & sound awesome. The guy knows how to dial in the tone no matter what he uses.
