Post VIP Lesson With Paul Tomorrow. Question Ideas?
Same place as last year and same general routine I'm guessing.
But.. I was wondering if any of you had any questions for Pablo you'd like to have answered. ?!? :D
He gave us plenty of time to ask away last year so I thought I'd extend the asking of questions to you folks.

I will be recording the whole thing again (audio) and uploading anything good to youtube.
Can't wait. Getting all giddy with excitement again

Well, I think you could ask him about his musical direction. What does he think it's different from let's say GOOMY to FU. How did the writing on those two differ? What does he see doing next? a more complicated work or something simpler like Alligator Farm. I wouldn't even bother going on to the RX subject...

Oh no I feel obligated to inquire about Racer X.
But how to convince the man... that is the question.

Yay! Finally, the silence is broken. Nobody else has said a word regarding these sessions, and TJ had not marked any day except Sunday as sold out, so... I had no idea what was going on.

What are you wondering about, guitar playing wise? What can Paul show you that will help you along your journey? These are lessons - since you do play guitar, and Paul really values musical conversations (i.e. back and forth jams, no words!) it's recommended that you play a lot of guitar when in front of Paul.
Sir Robin's question-set (+ a lot more goodies!) is covered in an unpublished duo of interviews, due out Feb. 7-8.

If you want some fluff to ask Paul before or after, I'm sure I can think of something.

The serious question I had saved up if I was going was... 'show us how to play guitar with your teeth.' (you know, the specifics.) Have him teach you how to play guitar with your teeth.
(this would require you to get up and watch, and then report back what you saw.) (of course, that's FUN, and it's cool as heck!) The entire group would get a kick out of learning/watching this. Since you don't have video at VIP, you retain that exclusivity. It's something that Paul can only teach you in person - no VIP book or concert video can solve it!

My 2 Paul-specific lessons gleaned from third-party-interviewing:
+ Stuff to NOT ask unless you can convey that it's humorous: any jokes. Jokes answered literally are pretty funny, but... not as cool as if it had just been a bunch of guffaws and some crazy answer to match a crazy question.
+ Don't get TOO obscure or cutting-edge because then he'll 'test' you, like find out the depth of your knowledge... and if you are not there to be able to pass the test, there will be an awkward oh shi* moment!

I was bummed out about not going to these until the Yellow Matter Custard show announcements came out...
Have fun!

First tell Paul you're recording the audio, and ask him "Could you please play the most terrifying lick ever and then say something for all the board members from RacerXBand.com"

It would be nice

When you ask him about Racer X tell him he's forbidden to use the phrase 'hopefully someday'.

Lol. Good ideas guys. I'll try my best to get a shout out to the board. Hopefully I think of an actual serious question on the way there that can better my playing. Gonna get there a little early and snoop around :)

Yeah... to avoid insisting too much on Racer X, I'd agree with Robin and would like to enquire about his musical direction.
Is he really trying to turn into a complete blues player? Is heavy metal still his thing?
And yeah, it would be nice if you could ask him if he has plans for Racer X in the near future, and as Lamer said "hopefully someday" is not an acceptable answer, way too generic.

I'll give a review of the lesson later today maybe, but first to address the Racer X topic.
Paul's answer was something like the following, and no I'm not quoting, just doing my best to recall his answer.
"Different people want me to do different things. Some people want more instrumental, some more Mr. Big, some Racer X.. etc. The best answer I can give you is keep checking my website. If I decide to do something, that would be the place to find out."

Again, that isn't even close to word for word, just what I somewhat recall him saying so don't quote me on it.
But perhaps this provides a glimpse of hope, ya? :|

No. It basically says 'I don't care what everyone else wants. I play what I want and I'll let you know if I change my mind'. Which is good for him but not so much for us...
