Post Mysterious PG clinic song
After much searching I have yet to find an answer, but I LOVE the song that Paul used to play in clinics in the late 80's, that he said was a mash up of a bunch of his tunes that didn't make it to the first Mr Big record.

To give you an idea, it's the one he plays at the 25 minute mark on the first half of an old 1989 GIT clinic video that is lying around here somewhere (the one where he is playing the three Humbucker Pink PGM prototype).

He also plays it on an audio from a seminar in Chicago, but I can't remember when.

I've affectionately named it P.G.R.O, since I plan to do a cover of it with my band, but i'd really like to know what it is, and why he never recorded it!

The middle part of the song is "Hoedown" but you probably knew that already :P Just saying ^^

Ah finally someone who knows it! Yeah I knew that, but it's pretty cool anyway.

Otherwise I have another question concerning a mysterious Mr Big song, which appears twice on the "terrifying guitar trip" video, once at 20:50, and once again just after the 49th minute.

I'm guessing this is just a song they recorded but never put on record, but it's also kick ass! Any info would be cool

The first riff from the clinic can be heard in full song version on the the Paul Gilbert - Early Demos, Clinics link here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=19300

(Well, it could if any of the links worked now... Try this: http://www.sendspace.com/file/7de3hc)

I think this may have been part of the demo done with Kelly Keeling on vocals before Lean Into It was recorded that included Green-Tinted Sixties Mind.

I don't think the Terrifying Guitar Trip song was ever released.

I can't find the riff in that clinic.

But the last bit with "gordon zane" and the bowling alley is hilarious ^^

the instrumental version of the song Paul plays during that clinic is IMO one of his coolest instrumental songs
that song and also that "James Brown" influenced song
He should record those two properly and put it on the next album

Absolutely! In the meanwhile i'm probably gonna ask Paul about it during the VIP lesson since not much seems to be known about it!

You could use mediafire or sendspace, something like that.

Thanks for sharing :D The main riff and hoedown by ELP are clearly heard as stated above. This is most likely pure coincidence but the one lick he plays at 3:20 is nearly identical to a part in The Best of Times be Dream Theater. Also gotta love that string skipping, although it sounds like he screwed up at 1:01. Another clinic version would be good to compare. This should definately be recorded, as the audio is quite bad.

a lot of songs might be identical to The best of times by Dream Theater. It's a really generic melody. If you're thinking "ok, I'll play some EPIC melody where an italian crowd of power metal fans would sing along" this is what most guitarists would play from the top of their head (also if they have never heard that DT song)
Actually, when I first listened to it, I thought: "Didn't Petrucci already played that on some LTE ballad?"

I'm curious, what part of The best of Times are you referring to exactly? I don't know much Dream Theater to be honest
