Post Paul Gilbert and Mike Portnoy
Is it just me or do these two sound amazing anytime they play together?
Whether it's Yellow Matter Custard, Hammer of the Gods, or this video i just saw today of them covering Rush's "YYZ":

I wish they'd work on something together, or even just do more of these awesome cover tunes.

The Beatles Tribute is BY FAR my favorite from all 4 of them.

Although my preferences are Led Zep>Rush>Beatles>The Who (I love all of them), I must say the The Who tribute is my second favorite. They really sounded like Who!

The Rush one is really good as for Paul and Mike, but I don't care about the other 2 guys, an I think they could've played more songs!

The Led Zep is good too, but I don't think the singer was very good... I think Richie Kotzen would've done a better job!

I got the dvd for Cygnus and the Sea Monsters (Rush tribute) and really loved their covers of 2112 and hemispheres. Never really listened to the original songs before i got the dvd.

This DVD is fantastic. As a huge Rush fan, they really did it justice.

Paul wrote me about it....he said that due to a late start, there was no sound check. When the started playing, he could hear snare and cymbals....and nothing of his own playing. He had to play be dots. There's no fixes or overdubs...he said despite not hearing himself at all...he only made 2 mistakes. He said the hardest part was the YYZ intro, not hearing the triangle...he had to watch Mike's hands to be sure of the start of the song.

makes the DVD even more impressive. 2112 and the 2 Cygnus songs are epic.

OMG that's amazing, he couldn't even hear himself? those songs are realllly complex to get every beat down right. i remember hearing in the commentary of the DVD that 2112 started incorrectly and had to redo the intro and reshoot, something pretty uncharacteristic for paul to be a part of :D. also, they were only given an hour to play--the show was part of a drum gig??? and there were a lot of other bands playing that day so they had to limit the number of songs played.

my list would be

rush>beatles>who>hammer

any idea if they're planning another gig?

Actually, fomr watching the comentaries, Paul and MIke say that they screwed up the intro for 2112, and they eddited it for the DVD.

I had no idea Paul's monitors weren't working! that's amazing!

Once I played a gig just like that... I could hear my guitar, a little bit of myself singing, and almost nothing else! it was pretty fun!
