Paul's become real good at pretending he's changed, but his heart is full of heavy metal rage

The shred-heads like it, but it doesn't fit the songs he plays... ;)

Post Re: New Paul Clinics and Site Update
I forget where the thread or post (posts?) about the upcoming Guitar Center clinics is... this post deals with the clinics coming up in MO and KS, July 2010.

Here is some info. from a 3rd party.

http://itjourney.wordpress.com/2010/07/ ... for-reals/

Here's some info. for the clinics, from GC, including how to get on the invite list.

http://gc.guitarcenter.com/vip/paul-gilbert/

The bassist's name is Tyson P. Leslie, according to numerous short posts he's blogged, and he is not easy to get a hold of. Interestingly (and really cool), both backup musicians are of African-American descent.

It's invite-only?! Dang - no wonder nobody can get any information. As of right now I don't even know the basics: when each clinic starts, and the admission fee (if any).

The bummer of all of this...

"Per Paul’s request, audio and video capture devices are not allowed. Still-image capture only."

So, NGW was it. The next time we see Paul in action is... ?? (maybe the NGW LA or CT masterclasses will get some coverage?)

Anyway, I spilled water AND energy drink on my mousepad this morning, and my mouse appears to have died just now (replacing mouse asap...), so... that concludes today's news.

(quick addition / update) - Here's Tyson's blog.

Expect at least one 1-liner 'review' of the clinics. :)

Thanks for the reference flying-dyno!

I've update my post (http://itjourney.wordpress.com/2010/07/ ... -for-reals) to include the local musician's names and I plan on posting an in-depth review of the clinic.

Please check back at itjourney.wordpress.com next week for my review!

First up, a quick review or blog-mention (+pics) from Paul's NGW LA masterclass...

http://blog.aleclee.com/?p=67

Now some stuff from our Heartland!

I tried to get the pedalboard image to post here but it won't - it did download though. :)
From rig-talk:
(link: http://www.rig-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=74324 )
So Paul actually has the prototype pedal onboard. Coolness.

From Chris Leon:
http://itjourney.wordpress.com/2010/07/ ... l-gilbert/
That's got to be one of the best (= most thorough) reviews you'll read all year. When he said it was going to be in-depth, he meant it!

This pic is from the second clinic... RED FIREMAN

There are some videos, but Paul had requested those not be made (no reason given, but he was ill), so there will be no links posted.

Now on to Mr. Big writing / recording time...

I was actually lucky enough to see Paul at the National Guitar Workshop in New Milford, CT and I must say it was AWESOME :D

He talked alot about thinking rhythmically and even had a booklet he made up to go with it. (if anyone would like I would be more than happy to make some scans)

@Thanatopsis : I saw your post in the PGM available thread, and based on your locale and the nature of the post - I was considering cold-PMing you about that clinic. 'Just by chance, did you happen to go?' That sort of thing.
NOBODY else has even mentioned it - anywhere! I've looked all over and found nothing, nada.
You are the first.
(I thought it might have been cancelled... until right now.)
A mystery has been happily solved.

Please do tell us more about the clinic (if you have time).

Right out of the gate, you've joined the forum in a really quality, cool way. :) Welcome!

If it's the booklet I'm thinking of (6-8 pages)... it's entertaining (and educational too) - the illustrations are worth it alone. It might be best to ask Paul before scanning it here, as it's his work and it was only given to the "paid" clinic attendees. (as far as I'm aware, the "free" GC peeps did not get any handouts.)

Post Re: New Paul Clinics and Site Update
Thank you for the warm welcome, Flying-dino! I would be more than happy to tell you more about the clinic though it was a few weeks ago and I might be a bit fuzzy on a few details, but I will try my best to remember everything.

It was mostly him playing with two of the NGW faculty members, some of the songs were (in no particular order) light my fire, snortin' whiskey, lord of the thighs, blue train, and rock me baby, those are the ones I remember at least. If I'm not mistaken it was pretty much the same list of songs that he played at the Guitar Center clinic you can find of youtube.
Then, inbetween each song he would go over one of the pages in the booklet and maybe take some questions. I wish I could remember more specifics, sorry.

Actually, there is some footage of his clinic in VA for National Guitar Workshop floating around on youtube, where he goes over exactly the same stuff he did in CT including his explanations of the pages in the booklet.

Oh, also how might I get in touch with Paul to ask him about the scans? My first guess would be e-mail, but I wouldn't expect someone as busy as him to be able to reply to all of the hundreds of emails he probably gets...

Here is Joe Walker's review of NGW 2010, Day 5. (includes the PG clinic) :)
His entire blog is an immersion in eclectic guitar studies; it's highly recommended reading and practicing.
