All right! *happy*

The "official" videos from this have begun to show up on YouTube. Here's one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twpujaRBF9w

That was a looooooong wait, but good things come to those with patience. Hopefully the camera work is second to none. :) It will be interesting to see (and probably a joy to listen to) for sure.

edit: Another, but this one's a song. :) It's the one I was hoping they'd post the most. *all happy*

Thanks for the links, I loved the video about songwriting.

Look at Pauls right arm in that video, you can see all the tendons and stuff moving when he picks :shock:

It looks like it was about 120F onstage...

Anyway, let me pick my jaw up off the floor now. I was caught somewhere between laughing my butt off - his delivery kills! - and being just amazed at the quality and clarity of even the tiny playing samples he was giving the crowd. Wow. (and that's on zero sleep, in the sweltering heat...) Great clinic, a job well done!

+ I love how the crowd gets really "screaming loud" when he plays even a tiny snip of something they recognize and enjoy. :)

That Fireman sounds amazing through so many genres.

edit: The facility which these rhythmic trade-offs happen with his "usual band" really brings out something...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=As0qoBUvJnE

Just watching Paul and Jeff jam out those rhythms is inspiring. It's watching the creative process "in real time".
I saw some clips of Paul demo'ing this in clinics, from April and July. The Italian drummers seemed a little tougher to convince to work on this sort of thing. One guy was really good at it, so the trade-off at that clinic was just about as jaw-dropping. (I want to say Gabriele Palazzi?)

Each video ends in anticipation... will there be more uploads? More clinics like this? What will he perform next? So we wonder...

The HotPlates are color coded, so if it's blue, that means the amp is a different power. More likely, it's just that the color rendering in the video is off. Probably just YouTube compression/re-rendering. Paul changes to some bizarre shades of orange, sky blue, and green... and we know he's not orange, sky blue, or green.

My criticism of this "GC official" footage is minor, and we can tell from watching other people's clips from this clinic that it is just the camera, or post-processing: They EQ'd Craig in to oblivion. It's like he disappeared. This is the most unforgiving audio, and it's kind of a shame that the low end is lost, because this is Paul's "usual" band. And Craig is fantastic! The little breaks and the dynamics Paul was able to work in to these songs with Craig and Jeff backing him up are really stunning. What's NICE about this audio is that you can hear Paul singing really clearly, and he's spot-on, no issues... :)

How I wish someone like Simone had been there to take pictures. Looks like it was a prime opportunity.

... that's what I mean by bass gone, unfortunately. Great song, super execution.

Listen to Paul singing Just Take My Heart.

I vote for Mr. BIG becoming a power trio!

Sir Robin, that's what's great about Mr. Big being a band of talent. If by some chance Eric has voice problems or a cold or something one night, Paul (also Billy and Pat) can back him up. The same goes for Paul, or Billy, or Pat. If there are any issues, the other members can take up the slack. Eric wrote Just Take My Heart, so I think it's really rude to vote him out of his own song. That would be like voting Paul out of Green-Tinted Sixties Mind. Touche. Be nice.

And now for you nags! What you have been waiting for! It's The Sonic Moustache.

(LOL. Awesome.)

Hotplates are not color coded by power. They are color coded by impedance 2 ohms is gold,2.7 ohms is green, 4 ohm is red, 8 ohms is purple and 16 ohms is blue. In the past with his Marshall Vintage modern combos he's used the 8 ohm one that is purple.

Most marshall 4x12's are 16 ohm cabs, so Marshall heads usually have 16 ohm outputs. So you would want to use a 16 ohm hot plate.

My Mesa boogie recto 4x12 is an 8 ohm cab, and my head has 8 ohm outputs. So I have an 8 ohm hot plate.

Some amps have multiple outputs with different impedance ratings, or an output where the impedance is switchable. When possible you would want to use a hotplate that matches the impedance the amps output wants to see.

xjustice09x: Thank you for clearing that up for all of us and for the correction. I knew I was wrong about part of that explanation (was trying to be overly simplistic! *kicks self in butt*) - but the hypothesis - that it's the color rendering - was what I was gettin' at.

Was it blue in person?

I'm going to have to go track down some photos I didn't adjust in the hue on, to check... one of these days.

sigh... wish I could have seen this in-person... looks like it was just stellar.

Dino, Eric could keep writing some stuff, I just don't like his singing (and lyrics)

BTW, is it just me or Paul seemed very happy that night?
Eric, weren't you there? You posted a review right?

He did seem REALLY happy to be singing and jamming on all those classic tunes. It really showed.

Video also features a "new" lick (at least I don't think I've heard it yet) which is a variation of the old lick.

Instead of going :
Code:
E:|-----------------------------------||
B:|-----------------------------------||
G:|-----------------------------------||
D:|--h-p---------h-p-p----------------||
A:|-2-3-2---2-5-3-5-3-2---2-----------||
E:|-------5-------------5---5-3-2-3-5-||

He's stripping the lick off of a few notes and reversing it this way:
Code:
E:|------------------------------||
B:|------------------------------||
G:|------------------------------||
D:|------h-p-p---h-p-------------||
A:|-2-5-3-5-3-2-2-3-2------------||
E:|--------------------5-3-2-3-5-||
