Post Paul's guest solo with Barrett is now avail - DOWNLOAD NOW!
Hey Everyone,

You may remember that some time ago I posted an interview I did with Barrett Tagliarino regarding his transcriptions for SFBADR.

He is also Paul's latest guitar teacher.

Anyways, Barrett recently asked Paul if he would perform a 'guest solo' on his forthcoming CD, Paul agreed, and here is Barrett's gift for all of you...

Hi Kiko,
Can you do me the grand favor of letting the fans at the racer x forum know that they can download "Healer," which includes Paul's guest solo, at last.fm?

http://www.last.fm/music/Barrett+Taglia ... le+Twister

I will leave that track available for free download for about a month.

Also, there'll be a transcription book of the CD, including the guest solos by PG and Scott Henderson, out in a few weeks.

Thanks for waiting!

Barrett Tagliarino

Kiko, thank you so much for the link!

Soon as I saw this thread, because that name is so uncommon and even doubly so when mentioned in conjunction with anyone else... I was thinking "Barrett, like Paul's jazz/composition guitar teacher Barrett?" So, it was a shoo-in... I was compelled to click. Yep, same guy! I can't wait to hear his material because I've heard Paul say lots of good things about Barrett. I downloaded the track, of course.

Edit:
Review published!

http://metalichicka.wordpress.com/2009/ ... aler-2009/

I don't have a last.fm account, so, in lieu of e-mailing Mr. Tagliarino and thanking him personally for the free download of his material - a public post. Thank you Barrett, for thinking of us! We aren't ALL shred heads, hehe :) I appreciated this track so much.

I have spoken to Barrett a lot on the net, he is a great guy and a fucking awesome guitarist, i have throttle twister on cd and it is one of the best instrumental albums i have ever heard, i suggest you all get it, you will not be dissapointed, it is on www.monsterguitars.com, also his tuition books are brilliant and genuinely help

i am happy to sent a burnt copy of Barret's album to the first 10 people that respond with their addresses(free), i have had permission to do this, honestly guy's this album is something else, i canot believe i have lived all these years and not discovered this artist and i feel we should support him(as Paul does), throttle twister ispossibly the greatest instrumental album i have heard and i would like as many of you as possible to hear it, i feel this is a positive thing to do and is definately worth it

cheers
Matt

Barrett gave you permision to do that?!
I can see that being ok - he seems like a super cool, and very generous guy, plus he says he's going to release it free one track at a time (one new track per month).

I have a retail copy of the CD and I've only had the time to listen to two tracks... both were really, really good. I want to get a block of time so I can really sit down and listen to it with all it's nuances, to give it a proper review.

Short, short version - mattanna is quite reasonably correct. It is excellent material. It is *most definitely* worth your money, time, and listening to.

Time for a review as I listen to it (I'm really doing this):

-Intro extremely influenced by Little Wing... maybe even too much, song sounds promising though.
-I'm sorry 1:15 and I feel like I'm in an elevator or a supermarket... hmmmmm, Doritos...
-2:30 a bit bored new solo starts.
-Sounds too much like a practice jam for a guitar instructionnal book.
-Holy shit my review is harsh.

Well here is my overall opinion: What ruined this track for me was the bass/drums/organ/rythmn guitar... I haven't heard anything cool, rocking, groovy, heartbreaking, heart warming, relaxing, nostalgic, in the background. In fact, it was really boring. I could think my opinion is biased because I'm a shred addict, but I know I love The Guitar Trio, Satch (who can play heartbreaking stuff), and other artists like this, and that I've aquired a taste for softer music. Not a single melody line, rythm was interesting... exept for the intro, but it sounded too much like Hendrix, so it ruined it. Absolutely nothing caught my attention.
The solos were improvised, they sounded like they were at least, perhaps I'm wrong (I hope I'm not). The improvisation combined with the boring rythmn really made me think a friend of mine was jaming to "Learn lead guitar, jam CD, track 4"... or someone (talented) was playing leads to a backing track in the street.

This track is good for background noise to me. Sorry for being so harsh, I'll listen again, and see if I can really get into it.

Thanks for the link though! It's nice to post it!
I'll try and listen to other tracks, see if I find something I like.

mattanna - I wasn't doubting you, so, it's cool you posted twice that you had permission. Barrett seems to be a really good guy; he gives so freely of his knowledge and his time. Just imagine how happy those 10 people are going to be when you mail the copies to them: that's such a nice thing of you to do, and such a cool offer. It's like tape trading used to be - freely sending out what you think is good. :)

acidwire - That's why they don't ask people who review soul to review death metal, and vice versa... it's too much out of their scope of experience. Stick to shred. The chances you'll like the rest of the album enough to write a public & well-researched review of it, are about as good as the USA annexing China within the next 10 days. It's not a shred album and it's not SFBADR-the-second.
