Well thats this thread finished

Billy Sheehan had to cover for Paul whilst he had the drill bit removed backstage, he didn't want his beautiful perm cut as it took so long to get to that stage :)

I vaguely remember an interview where Paul said he got his hair caught in the drill and a roadie ran over with a pair of scissors and Paul screamed "NO!" because "it's all about the hair."

Although I may have dreamt that so who knows. :P

I was alone, onstage, playing my solo in front of 15,000 people. I had long permed heavy metal hair. The drill was spinning. Suddenly they met! And a tangle ensued. Like Excalibur could not be pulled from the stone, the Drill could not be untangled from my hair. My roadie got the scissors, but I protested. "HAIR IS TOO IMPORTANT" I screamed. Suddenly I was surrounded by the entire RUSH and Mr. Big crew all with various plans to remove the drill and pointing flashlights at my head. Luckily I had put leave-in conditioner in my hair before the show and combined with slowly unwinding the drill by hand, the heroic crew was able to pull the power tool from my precious locks. Billy provided an impromptu bass solo while all this was going on. I think Spinal Tap would be proud.

I was there for that one. Mr. Big opened with Blame it on my youth. You really couldn't tell Paul was snagged , but Billy did play a LONG solo!At
that point in the tour, it was before Paul started out and jamming with Alex, so I still feel jipped!

Post Re: Is it true???
found this on a Rush discussion place:

Quote:
Mr. Big also opened for Rush in Atlanta that year. They managed one of the funniest things I've ever seen in a concert during their set, when Paul Gilbert (guitar) started doing an exceptionally cheesy act with a portable drill that had a guitar pick glued to the end of the drill bit (you can see Al mugging with it during the linked clip). Gilbert, who was all alone on stage at the time, raised the drill up over his head--and got the bit caught in his hair. Dude was frozen on stage for about a minute trying to pull it out, his guitar distorting like mad and the crowd laughing its collective arse off. He finally had to run offstage and get a roadie to chop the drill bit out of his hair. The whole silly affair proved once and for all that "hair bands" were a really bad idea.

Acording to my old boss, the whole band (Mr. Big) were huge Rush fans and stayed in the wings to watch the full show, which is pretty cool, even if they were a cheesy band...

what a douche.

If my only experience with a bad was a gig where the guitarist got his hair caught on a power drill, I'd probably say the same.

still, a very ignorant thing to say. it's an accident. anything could go wrong on stage.
