Post Check-up on the band 2012
Well, I know I'm totally dreaming, but hey this wouldn't be a Racer X board if we didn't have this kind of conversation.

Paul's been touring with Mr.Big, released a solo album not too long ago... and I just realize I have no idea what his next move will be. Is anyone aware of what's gonna happen next ? Another Mr. Big album ? Another solo album ? Or if pigs start to fly, a Racer X album ?

Just curious, also, what are the other members of the X gang up to now ?

I'd love to read a line from Motorman, or Juan, I'd normally say Scott Travis too, but he doesn't write.
Obviously everyone in the band is silent about Racer X to avoid causing a stir, or mention disagreements regarding the band's reunion, but hey, there's plenty of other stuff to discuss that doesn't revolve around why a Racer X reunion isn't happening, or other sensitive topics. Paul is kind enough to write, but sadly many of his posts are really professional : " Here's my new record ! ", " Here's my new tour ! ", " Here's my new project ! "... it's nice, but I wish the stuff we'd read could look a little less like advertisement, seems like we're only informed of what we should buy/subscribe to or whatever.

Why won't Jeff or Juan come around and say " Hey kids, we're still here, we are currently playing some cool music in a side project/in the process of a career transformation into the porn industry/full-time parents/putting on our superheroes costume and actually starting to fight crime since we can't wear the costumes on a stage in front of head-banging fans... " etc.

Well alright that last one was maybe a little bit connected to Racer X being on hiatus, but what the hell.

So... anyone from the band wanna say hi ?
Anyone from the board have fresh news on what's going on ?

Juan has a new band/project called "Big Sir" which has released an album not so long ago. He´s still touring/playing with the Mars Volta, and I understand that the band is doing great, so that must keep him very busy.

Scott is with Priest, who are doing a great world tour, and I also understand that they´ll do a new album when the tour is over.

As far as Jeff is doing, I know he occasionally does some gigs, participating in some bands, but (as far as I know) he doesn´t have a permanent gig.

Paul, as usual, has tons of things going on, primary with Mr. Big. I guess they´ll record a new album sometime soon, since the last one had great reviews, and the tour was an enormous success...

If Racer X will get together sometime to play a gig, or (god permit) make a new album, only the guys know...we just can cross our fingers and expect it to happen sometime before the armaggedon.

I thought the Epitath tour was Judas Priest's farewell ?!

Is that still true ? It's been ages since I'm aware of Big Sir and Mars Volta, I thought Juan might have started something new. I guess if these still work great, then it's cool.

Everyone thought that, but the band seems to be really enjoying themselves with the new guitar player, so I think they changed the status for the Epitaph tour to be their last "complete world tour", and that afterwords they´ll dedicate to record albums (at least 1 more) and do smaller tours, like "European tour" or "American Tour" or whatever it may be.

If you think that they´ve been playing for so long, and doing so extensive tours, it makes sense that they can rest a bit, or take some time off...

Which is weird because it's not a good album.

Big Sir released an album last week or the week before. They also have a few shows lined up.

I think The Mars Volta have an album coming out soon, so Juan will probably go on tour with them pretty soon.

Maybe it's good compared to the bunch of crap that's been coming out lately.

I don't like th new album.... But I don't dislike it, either.

I think it is a pretty good album. Undertow is a kick ass song.

I agree, Undertow is great. That's about it though. The rest is very 'meh'.

I don't really like Undertow.

That riff just sounds too muddy for me.

Don't get me wrong, a new Mr. Big album recorded in a storage locker would be better than none, but the "What If" album sounded flat and muddy to me also. Kevin “Caveman” Shirley had been recording Joe Bonamassa 24/7 and wasn't set up for a metal band but a blue-ser studio wise. I can only imagine the budget being a fraction of the "Bump Ahead" days and the guys were probably in and out in less than a week. With record sales sucking so badly, we may never again see tour-de-force Mr. Big or Racer X albums since the payoff would be such a gamble. "Getting Heavier" was much more listenable ear-candy wise, probably because Paul's studio was dialed in to record metal, not Eric Clapton. Someone like a Ty Tabor or Jason Bieler would be a good choice to record & produce the next album because of the similar type and expertise of production on Kings X / Saigon Kick projects.

as someone that was there when they called it "quits" the first time at the Country Club and flew in for the Whiskey Show 13 years later, the reality of there being another "reunion" performance (other than a guitar show not open to the public) is slim and none. enjoy your CDs. that's all you're going to get.

Who owns the rights to the Racer X name? Say if Jeff Martin, Bruce Bouilett, James Lomenzo, and Steve Moore went on the road, who would they be cutting a check to? Could they be RACER SEX?
