Post 3 Racer X re-releases in Japan - 2010
I'll type this as best I can, with a bandaged right arm (got tendonitis, ugh!)

The Pat Torpey Unofficial guy says that Racer X is having 3 titles re-released in Japan with cardboard sleeves.

Details (GoogleTranslated):

RACER X "Street Lethal", "Second Heat", "Live Extreme Volume" decision of the paper sleeve!

"Street Lethal"
11.10.2010 On Sale / King Records / KICP-91501 / 2,700 Yen

"Second Heat"
11.10.2010 On Sale / King Records / KICP-91502 / 2,700 Yen

"Live Extreme Volume"
11.10.2010 On Sale / King Records / KICP-91503 / 2,700 Yen

Hope you guys are happy that now you have not one, but THREE re-mastered albums coming your way from this band. Oh, it says there are tenative re-written liner notes as well.

Hop on over to CDJapan in about October and I bet you guys can pre-order these as usual.

I think this is some sort of record (pun intended)... how many albums is Paul working on in 2010? 5 old ones of his own, 3 old ones of Racer X, one brand new Mr. Big, and Fuzz Universe, plus a Christmas compilation appearance he never fails to crop up on somewhere... plus a European tour.
CRAZY! No wonder he's been so quiet...

(typed at only 50 wpm, sorry)

Just for the record:
I promised to buy 20 albums if a new Racer X album came out. I was talking about new material. If I can get my hands on these re-releases though, I'll buy them.

The PT guy is very reliable with his news. It is unusual for him to even find a rumor, let alone post one. He did not post a link this time, which was aggravating. (how am I supposed to confirm?!)
So I hunted it down. Now I know where he got it: it's from the King Records blog.

http://www.kingrecords.co.jp/blog-metal ... egend.html

I got the ^^ link from the Japanese "gossip board", hehe. (it's almost exactly like this forum, down to the crazy/silly things they talk about... except that all the participants are Japanese / never type in English, and they don't have usernames, which leads to some very wild rumors! It's a fun place to watch...)

So if you'd like to confirm, there's your link.

It doesn't say anything about bonus tracks. I thought all Japanese domestic releases had to have bonus tracks to compete with the less expensive imports there. Maybe that's a surprise we'll find out about later!

I'm waiting for Ken to hop in here with a smug "yeah, Paul mentioned that back in January" (he always has the inside track and it's awesome!) and then dish on some details for us! ;)

This has been blogged.
[Try typing fast with one hand bandaged. Argh! My wrist hurts though... sigh]

Normally with these it's the 'mini-LP' cardboard sleeve and SHM-CD remaster that is the selling point rather than bonus tracks. Looks like they are part of a wider Shrapnel release campaign:

@silentbob777: Cool... we posted the same link. :)
Good info., esp. about the 'selling point'. Thank you for sharing!
I don't see the part about the SHM-CD's but will look again soon.
I put the 'wider campaign thing' on my blog when I initially put this up, and left it off here because here is "Racer X only". True -- it looks like they're putting out all of the initial releases by the "shred guitar masters". It's like 20 CD's. It'll be interesting to hear what a new generation thinks of Greg Howe's or Tony McAlpine's firsts, or the Cacophany stuff!

Are they REALLY remasters?

Cuz a lot of the old Shrapnel are being released too, so it might not have anything to do with Racer X themselves (I mean, with the guys actually going to a studio to remaster it).

I'll wait anxiously

Varney told me that they are just re-releases. No bonus tracks, and no re-master.

Crap.
But hey! At least when I go to a CD store I won't have "It's out of print" replied to me when I ask for Racer X.

Great! It's so nice of you guys to do some sleuthing so that we don't have to take GoogleTranslate's word for everything. The text had said that it was "tenative" so - a "no, they won't be re-mastered" is just as valid as a "yes, they will be re-mastered". Thank you for confirming that the re-releases are "authorized" and that they indeed will happen. :)

What I want to know is - what's the occasion? I can understand Paul's solo stuff being re-released; they've stated their reason for that. For the King Records stuff - is it the 30th year anniversary of Shrapnel (they began apparently in 1980) or something?

It might seem trivial to re-write liner notes, and maybe it is - depending on the artist - but if Paul puts some effort in to it, it will probably take a day or 2 to re-visit all 3 albums and submit new, slick copy (free of typos) that translates well to Japanese. It's still not all fun and games, but without the re-mastering, the job's a lot easier! :)

I am sticking with my originals...
So will we have to wait another 4 years for Extreme Volume II Live?
