Post Getting Heavier
Earlier, I was in a store called Goodwill, and I found a copy of the Racer X album Getting Heavier.

So, of course, I purchased it.

It kind of reminds me of Technical Difficulties.

It doesn't remind me of anything Racer X has done before it.

Post Re: Getting Heavier
To be completely honest, i enjoyed the album.
Id have to say it doesnt sound like anything previous, not nearly as heavy, tone wise, as superheroes and technical difficulties, but to me, and i know im crazy the album mixing sounded similar to the way the Spaceship One album was mixed...the tone of the drums and guitar sounded the same as spaceship one....imho.
But there are definetly some good songs on this album i.e. Lucifer's Hammer, Golden God, Bucket of Rocks, etc. etc.... alot of head banging to be done.
It rocks in its own sort of fashion id say.

Now reunite God Damnit.

All the songs need to be played live to really shine I think.

Endless is one of my favorite RX tunes.

I love Getting Heavier. It's not the traditionnal shred madness you'd expect from Racer X, it sounded a lot funkier, with plenty of cool grooves instead of hard metal riffs. John Alderete was given a lot more musical space compared to the traditionnal metal format, it was nice.

If Racer X releases a new album, I hope it'll be Superheroes 2, but I'll always remember Getting Heavier as an awesome album. I understand fans could've disliked that album because they expected something different... but I believe that if they listen to the album without expecting to hear super heavy metal they'll realize this album is actually great in its own style.

The same happened for me with Kiss: at first, I expected to hear a super hard death metal thing because of the make up... and so I hated Kiss at first since I didn't hear what I expected. Now, I love Kiss, it's one of my favorite bands, because I now see Kiss as a Hard-rock masterpiece. I believe this kind of thinking could do some good to Getting Heavier's reputation.

I said what I said, and I don't listen to that album very often.

I LOVE Ghost Dance, though.

I get the feeling I'd have to hear Superheroes to really appreciate Getting Heavier.

Catapult To Extinction is one of the coolest RX-songs to play on guitar, really! :D I hated Getting Heavier the first two listens, and it definitely grew on me. Now I love it, and I can definitely see the nature of them going from Superheroes to that one. They could never top Superheroes anyways, so they took it in another direction, which is fine by me! :)

So, I had conciously NOT listened to Racer X for about... 3 months. I was trying to listen to other bands that I enjoy and that were not my favourites.

I can say now:

Technical Difficulties is my fav. Racer X album. Paul's playing on that one is 100% heavy metal, and it is quite different from Paul's common stuff as well.

Getting Heavier is good, but I doesn't give me those goosebumps Phallic Tractor/ Fire of Rock give me.

I also enjoyed Getting Heavier quite a lot. Ya sure its not as heavy as previous albums but its good. Different but good. I would have loved to see some of the songs played live. On Snowball of Doom 2 at Scotts drum solo (right after Scarified) he started playing the Catapult to Extinction intro and I just wanted them to break into the song! but he changed it up and continued with the solo...
