Post The Best MySpace email.....EVER
Ok. This made me laugh so hard. CLEARLY this guy in the band...has absolutely no clue who Racer X is..or who is in the band.

Hey I am Thumper from the band KILLER OF THE RISE and also part of Powercord Productions I am looking for bands to play at a venue call the G CLUB in Hollywood.

we have amazing spots
Jan. 30

You are only required to sell 15 tickets at $5 dollars a peice so in total $75 per date you play

SETS ARE 30 MIN. EACH BAND

PLEASE HIT ME UP IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ANY OF THESE DATES

Can you imagine Scott, schlepping tickets on Sunset Blvd for $5 each?

Disclaimer: I am not knocking unsigned bands or the school of hard knocks most bands go through when they start up AT ALL. Almost all bands have to go through this stage and it builds a lot of character.
What I am doing here is bringing up points that would seem ludicrous to bandmembers with the scene-tenure of artists like Scott Travis & Paul Gilbert... for the laffs!

* Do you think you'd get a glorious 3 pm slot opening for (insert unknown local band with 16 fans including the girlfriends, roadies, and their kids) ?!
* Would you have to sell tickets on the hottest July day to get that slot?
* Is this at a VFW rent-a-hall?
* Does your band name have to be the same size as all the other band names on the flyers you'll have to distribute yourselves?
* Payment: do you get to choose a free case of domestic beer, or $10 a person?
* Let me guess, you're supposed to share a backline, and that backline is a bunch of Wal-Mart Brand gear.
* Is the ''promoter'' of legal age to drink?

Is this guy serious? Maybe he's pranking you guys to get a rise out of you.

I vote Killer Post Heaven too, but only if we can have a link to this guy's MySpace page, so he can be gently given at least half a clue :)

EDIT: I, like the others, say you do it, but only if you can manage to get at least a 9-10 pm slot, at least one hour, with your own gear and you get at least 50% of the door $$$. Make sure the club has at least a 500 capacity and blow the doors off the place. I would so totally fly in for that. I'd probably laugh the whole flight on over...

I don't even feel like reading such a long reply. My god makes me dizzy with just looking at it :x

Unfortunately, Ken, this is very common in the LA music scene, especially with promoters booking clubs on the Sunset Strip, and, worse, many, if not most, bands desperate to play the Sunset Strip jump on the opportunity. There was a time in the 80's where bands had to either pay a deposit up front (e.g. $500) and sell tickets on their own to make their money back, or sell a minimum amount of tickets. If the minimum wasn't sold, either the band would have to come up with the balance owed to the promoter on the evening of the gig or the promoter will confiscate the band's gear until they paid. It is also common even today that some bands actually PAY promoters sizeable chunks of money and not get paid just to open for other more popular bands. The venues don't like that arrangement because they only make $ from drinks.

Pay to play is common everywhere. Bands just starting up who don't have a huge fanbase are the usual victims.

I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve here. For a start, it isn't even that long. Secondly the posts which are most irritating to read are the ones which aren't even formatted favourably (see drumslut's post above).

Thirdly, why bother to hake such of a fuss about it unless you are intentionally stirring?

Next time just reply 'tl;dr'. It's shorter yet still manages to get across its troll-like vibe.
