they read Racer X's history, and they were really pissed off Racer X didn't make it to be famous because of Paul leaving the band,

especially when they read Chris Arvan's interview where he said Racer X was ahead of its time, and some of my friends reckon if they had waited a bit longer they could have become a huge band,

you shoudl tell your friensd not to believe everythign they read on wikipedia. Although it can be insightful at times, it is generally extremely biased by those who wrote the articles.

Dreaming of what could have happened "IF" it´s fun, but reality is too strong.

I´d be happy just to have some new Racer X album each 3-5 years, and see them live once in my life.

Ain´t asking for much, but even this seems impossible.

I think it's pretty obvious why racer x never made it. They were a guitarists band. They appealed to a tiny % of the public. Which was like 16 to mid 20s guitar people. That's my take on it. The songs are ok, but the focus was on the guitar not the song. Whereas Mr. Big, that changed, and it went to the song.

I think this thread wasn't such a great idea.

Sure I wish that Racer X would make it bigger than they are so that the whole world can see how great they are.

But, imagine what the RX members would think if they saw this thread?

I strenously disagree. I think the songwriting on the 80's Racer X records is superior to anything released by Mr. Big. That was what made Racer X unique compared to all the other Shrapnel artists ... the songs kicked ass.

The songwriting was definitely better than anything Yngwie Malmsteen was putting out at the time. If Yngwie could get a record contract with a major label and tour the U.S. opening for AC/DC, there is no reason Racer X couldn't have done the same.

Agreed. Mr. Big was a great band in my opinion, but the music just seemed to be like every other pop rock band (aside from the Jesus-like guitar player) and occasionally they had a heavier song. With Racer X, they had a style that set the bar for bands of that type, and the composition was definitely well thought out. I still am learning things when I go back and study the old records.
