I haven't..... :(

It's kind of funny...cause in WHEN METAL RULED THE WORLD...they talked about bands getting signed if they could simply draw a crowd....and I was like...Ummm..Racer X sold out constantly....and didn't.

I think there maybe some truth to Chris Arvan in his interview....If Jeff had the big blonde teased Aqua net hair....they may have gotten signed.

Look at Guns N Roses.....Watch the video for Welcome To The Jungle...Axl looks like every other LA Metal singer... He never had that hair again.

You do...whatcha gotta do.

Or, you stay true to yourself and accept the fact that you didn't get signed, but you were doing what you love to do and still getting paid for it.

Axl Rose still thinks he's somebody.

You need to read up on your Racer X history..... READ THE FAQ!!!!!
It's right there....

Racer X desperately tried to get signed. That's why they broke up.....they couldn't get signed.

No...they are not signed by any American label...which is why they don't tour....etc...this has been discussed many many times.

The only "Label" they are on...is Universal Japan...and the Japanese label is the ONLY...and I mean ONLY reason there were any new Racer X CD's after Extreme Volume in 1988.

Point of clarification ... Racer X couldn't get signed to a major label. They were, of course, signed to Shrapnel Records in the 80's.

Signed to Shrapnel is an oxymoron. It's a flat fee to distribute the record. You pay to record it....they make it...and distribute it. You receive no tour support and no promotional $upport to any radio stations. It's like having your demo distributed....to stores.

I don't know the rates back then....but a couple years ago, it was around $400,000 to $500,000 paid to holding companies...which are owned by the radio stations to get your song played on the radio.

So Shrapnel's fee to the artist, is several zeros and a comma short of what's required. We're talking just a few thousand dollars...so I definitely wouldn't phrase it as signed, like Atlantic Records signed.

It's basically a fancy way to get heard...by a real label.

I'm assuming that they got some percentage of the sales revenue though, right?

I´ve heared that Varney is a relly tough business man, so I doubt Racer X was making lots of money from the records....

Don´t think they had a big percentage going on.

Btw, are they currently signed to Universal Japan? If so, don't they have an album count they have to fulfill? :o

Paul said he was writing an instrumental guitar CD. Unless he means he's going to write a bunch of songs without words and then combine it with the other three to form a heavy Racer X album...seems like he might be busy.

But personally, I'd rather see the guys get together for Racer X as Paul can write kickass music on his own anytime!

It wouldn't be a Racer X CD without words. Jeff is an integral part of Racer X.

Well of course. I meant that Paul would bring the kickass guitar parts, Jeff would lay down some lyrics, Scott would burst in with the huge drum sound, and John would break out amazing basslines. :)
