 Matt Halpern
He's a beast drummer who plays in Periphery. He is INSANE. Best drummer I have ever seen live....and I've seen a lot of beast drummers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8B_vtNChE0&feature=related

 Re: Matt Halpern
that's real good... although it bugs me that he plays through such a simple set up.... Maybe his deal is experimenting with cool grooves, so he doens't care about more cymbals or tom-toms. Just out of curiosity, have you seen Marco Minnamann live?

 Re: Matt Halpern
Hes great!
i dont see why he doesnt have a bigger kit though, i mean more options cant hurt. Its nice to have many timbres at your disposal. You dont have to use them.
Remember, were not talking about a MONSTER kit, just adding some toms to bring it up to what you expect from a beginners drum set.

 Re: Matt Halpern
If you read the description on the video he says he's been using that improvised kit for teaching.
If you watch other videos of him playing he uses a bigger kit with more toms and cymbals.

 Re: Matt Halpern
Yes I've seen Marco. And Virgil, and all those guys.
Matt is just as good, in his style. Why play a big set? I like how he can make his playing interesting without a bunch of extra stuff. In fact, I see this as him deliberately handicapping himself so he thinks of new ways to be interesting. That's just me though. He is the most entertaining drummer I've ever seen next to Marco. They are my top two.

 Re: Matt Halpern
He did play with this setup at the show I went to though, and it was still by far the most insane drumming I've ever heard for any type of metal ever.
