 Soundproofing
I'm looking to soundproof my home recording studio...well okay, at the moment it's just a room where I record and draw/chill in!
Now I know there's no really cheap way of doing it...and that's a hard thing to do yourself. I've read up on it quite a bit and know that it's practically impossible to stop all noise due to resonance and frequencies yaddayadda!
But I was wondering whether anyone around here had successfully managed to soundproof at home and if anyone can give any advice on ways toat least block some of the sound escaping my room?
Thanks!!
Dave

Egg cartons work, but im sure you're not gonna want a room covered with egg cartons haha.

egg cartons dont stop sound they just make the sound waves go off in different angles so that it doesnt bounce back and forward , killing reverb. This is why most dead rooms have odd angled walls.
mass stops sound, concrete walls are effective but not always possible for people like me. But ive found that a few thick matress's can be quite effective for poor people like me.

One layer or a few layers off carpet on each wall and the door.
Then, egg cartons on top of the carpet blocks out alot of sound.

You can build a room inside of you room. The floor needs e.g. car tires underneath to create space between the two floors to avoid a direct vibration connection... knom sayin?

ok, building a room inside another would have been the best solution (but it's also quite excessive)
here are some other ideas:
V-Drums
play only quiet jazz

I think you just have to cover the walls with foam plates, and fill any spaces between doors and stuff, but don't really know how to reall do that, just a thought

we soundproofed a basement with concrete walls and metal pipes all through it for recording.
took entire sheets of particle board and but them all around the walls 1 sheet thick.
did a walmart run and walked out with the cheap matress foam with the odd shaped designs.
panted the matress foam with roll on paint we had left over. buy a gallon of black if thats the colour you want.
once the paint dried we broke the foam in so that it was still flexible
made the patterns opposite each other and went around the entire basement, including the ceilings with the wood and foam.
soundproofed and no echos or natural reverb. can barely hear the drumset upstairs, is barely under a normal conversation level dB.
