hmmm how would the 10th (mahogany) sound in comparision to the 500 or even 301? is it pop and twang like the 800 or bright like the 500?

i wish i had a 10th for comparision.

i thought the 301 would sound brighter because of the maple board. but the 500 clearly sounds brighter. both of them have the TZ in the bridge... and both of them have basswood body (that's what listed on the catalogue). but my 500 is much heavier than my 301. anyone knows why?

I played a few of EKG's PGMs and out of all of them the PGM 800 sounded the best and the PGM 90HAM looked the coolest!

One day I'll get the PGM 800 or maybe I'll wait until the next anniversary guitar comes out.

The 10th is much darker/warmer than any other PGM simply cuz of the mahogany body. More sustain, too. There is no pop like an 800.

I think that other than Paul's 300 i think he uses the 800 the most.
I have no facts to back that up though

does it sound "good"(for the lack of a better word  ) in comparison to say 301/500/800?? which one do you (lucky-to-own-more-than-1-pgms) guys prefer? i get the impression from reading the forums that the 10th is very highly sought after, besides the 90th and was wondering is it because of the sound? or is it the neck feel? or what? any direct, raw sound clips to enlighten as well? :)

after hours of messing with the EQ settings on my Laney, i concluded that my 301 with paf pro sounds the best, 500 being a tight second, the other 301 with TZ the third.
the paf pro works very good with the 301. i guess thats the reason why Paul doesnt put TZ in his 300. previously i said the 500 sounds better than the 301 because i've never played a 301 with a paf pro. i thought the TZ would sound better so i asked Rich to put a TZ in my 301 before shipping it to me. now that i bought another 301 with the original paf pro in.... wow... i'm surprised how good it sounds.

The 10th does sound good. It just sounds different from the others. If you want that heavier warmer tone, it is perfect.

Just my opinion, but I think the 90HAM is the best looking, but worst (lack of better word ;-)) sounding of them all. Just too bright and thin to me.

The PAF's in the 301 are a perfect match. It's not a pickup that i would have thought i would like but it's great. Definately has the PG tone capacity....if only my fingers had his capacity too.

If I could only have one PGM, It'd be an 800. It does it all. --Jason

i've had an 90ham before, and i agree that it sounds too thin
thats the main reason i sold it.
but i notice when Paul plays his 90ham in the Eleven Thousand Notes and Hoshino Anniversary videos, the 90ham sounded great. not thin sounding at all. well... maybe thats why he's the guitar hero and we're not :?

maybe his pgm is modded or rather of different woods? i noticed something different too..in his 11th thousand notes vids, his 90th has dots inlay just like some j-customs. did any of you guys noticed it too? maybe that's y his 90th sounds better. all custom and diff body woods, not the same as the ones in production? 8) btw, i did see before 1 90th that has the dots inlay for sale in japan..but that was the only 1 i ever saw that had inlays..hmmm mmaybe it was early japan-only production :(

I think i have seen pictures of at least 2 versions of the 90th. Maybe 3. The version with dots is probably a prototype given to Paul. It could be be a little different than production, but it probably isn't.

If you let me play Zakk Wylde's gear I still won't sound anything like Zakk. If you let me play Pauls gear I wouldn't nail his sound either. Some players almost always sound good regardless of the guitar they are using.

sure PG will still sounds like PG no matter what gear he uses. BUT his tone will be different. i have a video of PG in which he plays his 500 thru some little practice amp. he still sounds like him because of the way he plays and his style, but the tone is very different.
