Post question for guys who use a pgm 30 or 300
recently during one of my performances my high E string snapped on stage! i know the locked bridge guitars strings snap more easily. i practice alot, about 2 hours a day every day. should i chnage strings before each gig? how often do u guys change your strings?

The day Before the Gig is best if possible. Just enough then to wear them in so you can Bend easy

It really depends on how much whamming you do.

Flappin around with the whammy bar will slowly eat your strings.

But, you can get good mileage from just refraining from going nuts all the time on the whammy bar (as fun as it is. . . . *sigh*)

I usually change mine after 2-3 gigs, it all depends on how much I sweat! :D I know it sounds yucky but sweat will kill your strings and hardware, be careful and clean your guitar well after every gig. I agree with a day before but when you're on the road sometimes you don't have much time in between gigs. So you gotta find strings that sound/feel good fresh out of the pack. For me it is D'Addario's Jazz/Bues Rock set (11-49). They sound and feel great, I tuned to C# so they don't feel too stiff.
:D

a bit of advise... sell your 30 or 300 and buy a 301, 500, or 800
or throw away the trem to trash and convert it to a fixed bridge

I agree man, Fixed bridges suck. I like paul, but I cant stand to be without a whammy, it can add dimensions to your sound.

Fixed bridges don't suck. Trems SUCK!
restringing, tuning, and setting up a trem are pain in the ass. further more, a trem kills the sustain and tone of a guitar. also you can get whammy effects thru a pedal.
people who hate trems don't hate them because Paul doesn't use a trem
there are reasons why so many people hate trems and spend days and hours trying to convert the trem to fixed bridge, blocking the trem, or simpliy don't buy a guitar with a trem

Hey, man, you seem to know a lot about PGMs. Do you know where I can find any Japanese PGMs, the white ones, with the Edge trem? I'm not buying into the Korean model.

You're talking about the PGM300. Although I think all the 300's came with the Lo Pro Edge. No matter, you could just swap it out for an original Edge if you like it better. Ishibashi Music, and MAE guitars would be good places to start. Keep checking the PGM's available thread too. --Jason

Thanks for the replies, fellas. I totally forgot about Rich Harris. He's Mr. Ibanez.

I didn't forget about the 03's, I omitted them on purpose. As far as I'm concerned, Ibanez stopped making tremolo equiped guitars in 2002. The edge pro (edge poor) is the devil. --Jason
