Post Whoo Hoo! PGM301 In Da House!
I just got through throwing down with my new lady for the last hour. This guitar plays smooth as silk. Probably the fastest Ibanez neck (it's an 04 model by the way) I've ever had my hands on. Even faster than my 800. Maple fingerboards rule, period.

I was all ready to pull the PAF Pro and throw in a Tone Zone, but I was getting some pretty sweet tones out of her, so I'm going to stick with the PAF Pro for now.

One a scale of 1 to 10, I'm going to give it an 8. The ONLY reason it doesn't score higher is because white is the only color it comes in! --Jason

Right on! All I hear are good things about the 301.....I have to get one. Have you played an 05 neck? Which is better?

Eddie, I've played both, and I've got to say that I like the older, (03'-04') necks better than the new necks. The difference in width and thickness is minimal, but I swear I can tell the difference. The best way I can describe the difference is like shoes. The old neck is like putting on broken in shoes that just feel good, familiar, comfortable. The new necks are like new shoes. They feel weird, foreign, they're not "your" shoes. Does that make any sence? I think that I could have gotten used to the new neck profile, but I prefer the old profile. That's why I held out to find an 03'-04'. The closest thing you can play to compare it to is an RGA, or any of the new prestige level guitars. They have the same profile as the 301, minus the maple fingerboard of course. That would give you a pretty good idea of how they compare to the old necks.

Either neck profile though, I think you'd be happy. The 301 is a winner for sure. --Jason

Sometimes i think the bridge pickup sounds a little thin but it works with the guitar and Paul's sound. I thought about changing it but i can't bring myself to alter the guitar in any way. I haven't even put my normal schaller strap locks on it.

I wish i could have had a chance to have played both neck profiles to see what i like better. SAMASH sent me the 05 and i love it just the same.

301's definately rule but i would like some more PGM's though

MUHAHAHHAHAHA

My 301 is 04 as well. I was also suprized at how hot the PAF's were, hotter than the Evos i put in a 550 which doesent make sense when an Evo is an overwound PAF :?

The 301 sounds great with a GH head, probably better than with a Recto

So far, I've gotten the best sound out of the single coil by rolling the volume off for some cleaner tones. I've got it adjusted almost all the way down in the body too. Really, I very rarely use it. The neck and bridge pickups split is all the single coil sound I need. --Jason

yeah i have it all the way down too
i find that the single coil by itself dun pack enough punch
i use it when i am in clean channels
seldom use it with distortion

and also guys i like it cause it has a reverse headstock
but haha i dunno what it actually does apart from looking cool :?

It ended up being about $300 less than a brand new one. I paid $937 shipped for it with hardshell case. Which I figure is fair market price for used one that's mint. I mean, It didn't even look like it had ever been played or even taken out of the case. I would have liked to found one for around $800, and I probably could have if I held out long enough. I couldn't wait though, I was having a major case of GAS. Plus I wanted one with the old neck profile, so I figured why not get this one while I could. --Jason

wow cool so $937 was shipping and customs?
that would be a nice deal
i got mine for $925US with case mint from US but since it had to be shipped to australia
the shipping and customs charged me like $450US :(

but its still all worth it in the end
PGM301's here cost $2700AUD with the case
