It looks pretty nice Jason. I'm still trying to decide whether the next one I get is a PGM500 or a PGM301. Man, if the 500 just had a maple fingerboard, or if the 301 was offered in orange!

Not to be nosey, but how many days did it take to ship? I've never bought from MAE and I'm just curious. --Jason

The whole transaction took about 2 weeks. It could have gone faster if I didn't send a check to escrow.com. It took a few extra days for them to secure the payment.

It shipped last wed. It was in LA by friday. It was delivered on saturday. I wasn't around to play it till last night. So it came really fast. MAE was a pleasure to deal with. I would definately buy from them again if they have a guitar I want.

Ishibashi sent my guitar through EMS. I bought it on a Sunday night by credit card, and I had it before noon the following Monday. I figured MAE would have it to you in 7-10 days. I've bought stuff from guys on the west coast and it taken UPS longer than a week to get it to Indiana! Crazy stuff. --Jason

I've got to agree that I prefer the payability and sound off the 301 than any of the others. My 500 seems to have a very thin neck and my 800 doesn't cut through as well as the 301. The 100 is a pure metal guitar but the floating trem is a pain in the arse - and it's heavy as!

Isn´t the PGM500 neck, a Wizard II?
(same as the old, "pre 03", PGM30)
Can anyone confirm this?

Old catalogs say it is a Wizard. Not a Wizard II.

It is really thin. I usually like thicker necks like the one on my Les Paul, but the neck on the 500 still feels comfortable.

That's interesting that you like the sound of your 301 better than the 800. My 800 Is an absolute monster. As far it's feel and tone it is the most perfect guitar I've ever played. What kind of amp set up do you have? --Jason

To me, the 301 is probably the best feeling guitar I have, then the 500 (I don't have an 800). But, I don't much care for the tone on the 301, too bright for me, and I have that pickup combo in other guitars, it just doesn't work for me on the 301. I dig the 500 tone, I love the TZ and HFH pups, which is what I'm going to try out in my 301, although I may try something else in the neck. The 100 is just fun to play, not the best feeling or the best tone - although for me it's better than the 301 with the same pickup combination (because of the maple board and hard tail maybe?) - but I'm still a fan of Edge equipped guitars, and the PGM100 is one of the better ones I have, just behind the ol' 1987 RG550 DSY.

My 2 cents...

You know Dave, of all my guitars, a Tone Zone in basswood is one combination I don't have or haven't even tried yet. I have the pickups bought for that PGM project I was telling you about, so I'm really interested in how she's going to sound once I get the body back get her finished.

If you're not that happy with that 301, I would be willing to take her off your hands. PAF Pros and all! --Jason

The TZ sounds good in the 500 (I THINK that's basswood... but I can no longer rely on the PGMsite specs page to double check my fading memory), so I'm pretty sure that's how I'll go in the 301 (I have a brand new on in my 30 that'll work real nicely). But, as much as I love the HFH in the neck on the 500, I want to try something different, a friend suggested a Breed neck model, so I may try that out.

But, if all else fails, I guess I'll have no choice but to send her your way Jason... or maybe not...

Hey, where are you at on that project, anyway?

I'm going to try a Breed in the neck position for my project. It was either that or a Fred. I just got lucky and found a Breed in the right color!

Well....Not much further along that last I told you about it I'm afraid. Eddie is doing some work on the body right now and I still have some router work for the secret weapon once I get it back from him. I did make it into the local paint supply house and bought the perfect contrasting color for the F-holes and logo though. I had the neck ready to bolt on, but..well something else became available so I'm kinda making a change there. Check your PM and I'll give you the low down. --Jason

Jason - I use Laney GH100 and Marshall cab with Alesis Quad for chorus/delays etc. I just feel the sound although great from the 800 is ever so slightly mushier when distorted whereas the 301 almost gives off a single coil like crispness kind of Nuno-esque sound if you know what I mean?

For the sound you're wanting I can see why you prefer the 301. The PAF Pro along with the maple fingerboard makes that guitar have a twangier, brighter tone. Like I always say, If you like it, that's all that matters. :) --Jason
