Post 2005 PGM neck
I read at IbanezRules:

"PGM301WH ... now with 5 piece maple/walnut non scarf joint neck..."

How does this change in the neck affect the guitar? For better or worse?

I think it is better. When a neck is made out of 3 or 5 pieces, the grain of each piece is alternating. This provides for a sturdier neck. I think they are also leaving a volute, which I like :-)

A picture would help, but....

Behind the nut, where the neck meets the headstock, there is more wood left there.

Thanks for the pic.
I´ve got a volute on my JB tribute.
Looks nice and feels good.

So do you think I banez did this to improve the neck, or to cut costs?

Or, did Pual ask for it?

The scarf join has to cost less than laminating and volute?

I love the neck on my PGM301WH, but, I'm a little heavy-handed and sometimes I bend it when I hit something like a hard open E chord.

I think the 5 piece necks with no scarf joint improves the design. Not sure if there is any cost savings....they are still laminating....5 sandwiched pieces instead of a scarf.

Also, I think it is on all 05 models, not just the PGM

I'm intrested to try one. As far as I know, it's still the same profile. The feel should be almost identical to any of the old scarf joint necks. The only place I think you'd notice any difference would be playing or chording in first position, or low gear as I like to call it! --Jason
