Post Re: Mass Production Fireman
To be honest I really can't understand from that pic if it is a set-in or a bolt-on neck guitar...
I can't even understand the name of the photographer in the low-right corner: maybe if we type that name on google we will find better pics... I don't now, it's just an idea...

oh wait, now that I think of it I can see an old RG style neck plate on there O.o

it could also be some reflection on the finish

this looks like it's the Korina Fireman if you ask me

Interesting.

But then again you know that according to Paul, bolt on neck with a square heel gives you better tone!

That pic in conjunction with the other pic confirms the neck is going to be maple too (or at least in the prototype) instead of whatever it was supposed to be, mahogany I think, which aside from the tonal differences looks kinda lame in the natural maple color with the red.

The picture boohb provided is from the Marshall Blog Japan.
It was taken prior to the "Live From the Living Room" secret Mr. Big show.
I believe the pic is by William Hames.

I don't think the production model would be bolt-on.

It's more likely that this is a prototype or just something Paul wanted to be made for him to see the tonal difference.

Well, I don't have my copy of FU to hand to check but from this thread (http://racerx.edutom.co.uk/board/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=20156) about the original red Fireman:

From the pics in the Fuzz universe booklet. It looks like the neck is a bolt on, and is painted red.

So the bolt-on isn't any different to Paul's red FRM.
The only noticible differences so far are the neck material and lack of paint on it.
Would a maple neck cut costs much or is it just a tone test?
Paul did mention that Ibanez were making a few different prototypes so I would guess this is the one he prefers and is road testing it before giving the OK for production?

I think I was mistaken about the red one being bolt on in the FU booklet. I saw a line where the neck met the body and thought maybe it was a bolt on. From other pictures of the red fireman I think it has the same neck joint as the other set neck models.

Maple necks might cut costs because most Ibanez models have maple necks. The production iceman and destroyer have maple/walnut necks.

Update: Paul did a photo shoot with Ibanez a few days ago that features the red fireman. Suggests to me that a retail release will happen shortly. I would think announcement at Summer NAMM.

That's interesting news!

I was wondering if they might be produced as part of the new Indonesian Premium line?
http://iheartguitarblog.com/2011/01/premium.html
I would assume that would result in a lower price than if it was a Japanese Prestige?
