Ibanez Presents Paul Gilbert's Latest Creation, The 49-Fret Electric Guitar

March 13, 2009

At Ibanez, 2009 truly is the Year of Paul Gilbert. Ibanez has now decided to release, on a limited and special-order basis, his original creation, utilized for the recording of a Racer X album. This guitar is virtually identical to a stock PGM 300, with a new choice of body wood, fretboard, finish, pickups, hardware, and most importantly, frets. There are 49 frets, for maximum musical versatility. Plus Ibanez is urging fans to vote for which of Paul's radical-appearance signature models - some of which were originally only available in Japan - should be the next Paul Gilbert Signature Reissue.

Available for special order on April 1 only, is the limited edition PGM04012009 with its unmistakable combination of transparent blue jewel tone body complemented by garnet jewel tone faux F-holes and sapphire blue DiMarzio pickups. The PGM04012009 is limited to just 1966 worldwide, with approximately just 3 of those slated for the United States. The Japanese-made PGM04012009 features U.S.A.-made DiMarzio pickups, a solid maple body fitted with the Ibanez new Super Wizard (same thin, fast and flat dimensions as the original 1987 Wizard, but even stronger), the original Edge locking trem and a deluxe hardshell case. The list price is just $1409.66.

Specifications:
# Model #: PGM04012009 Paul Gilbert
# List $1409.66
# Available Finishes: JB Jewel Blue
# Body Material: 2 pc. Bookmatch Tiger Maple
# Neck Material: 5pc Maple / Walnut
# Neck Scale/Type: 25.5" / Super Wizard Prestige 17mm
# No. Frets/Type: 49/Medium
# Fingerboard: Rosewood
# Inlay: None
# Bridge: Edge Zero H/W
# Hardware Color: Cosmo Black
# Neck Pickup: DiMarzio® Super Distortion®
# Middle Pickup: DiMarzio® Air Norton S™
# Bridge Pickup: DiMarzio® Super Distortion®
# Case: Deluxe Hardshell, Included

Background:
One of the most gifted artists in the art of instrumental rock guitar, Paul Gilbert is not only one of the very fastest on the fretboard, he is also one of the most musical in the genre with ideas and themes that are never eclipsed by his unearthly speed. Paul's impressive career includes Racer X, Mr. Big, his own solo works as well as teaching in both the United States and Japan (where Paul enjoys considerable acclaim and popularity). While his 2009 PGM20TH Twentieth Anniversary, Fireman, and PGM401 signature models all celebrate the 20 years since the debut of his signature PGM model, his relationship with Ibanez is actually several years longer, which includes his stellar performance at the Ibanez GuitarMania concert at the 1987 Summer NAMM Show, considered to be the "rebirth" of Ibanez with its new roster of virtuoso players. In addition Paul Gilbert is both an in-demand clinician for Ibanez and arguably the most famous collector of vintage Ibanez guitars in the world.

---------------------------------

That is all a direct quote.

IbanezRules didn't have any order blanks or I would have bought one!

I guess you guys don't have to worry about finger destroying stretches anymore?!

Well, at least Paul still has an awesome sense of humor.

Oh yeah? Are you saying Pablo Gilberto is not capable of possessing, marketing, and then playing the living heck out of a many-fretted guitar?!

Is that not him in the picture, at the NAMM show?
Count the frets on this LA Custom Shop job. And what chord is that, anyway?

Image

That's the only pic I have, I'll try to get some more, but it's kinda tough... and... I want color coded metal frets with split dot inlays! *whine, complain, whine*

The man could tie string between 2 branches and play it and it would sound good. Keep the faith.

Although obviously fake (nice touch with the model name 4-1-2009 lol), that guitar is actually quite nice (discounting the stupid number of frets).

Actually I wish they would make some of these XO 36 fret guitars they made for Paul :D (or didn't they? lol, I don't remember if it was Ibanez).

That bass is a lot like it. Perhaps dynaelectron is the model name?
