Gibson still uses it. They tend to use it in limited quantities though. Some years they have small runs of Korina explorers and V's. I have even seen custom shop Korina Les Pauls. The 1959 Korina V is up on the current Gibson website. Epiphone has the 1958 korina explorer and V in its current lineup.

That's a really cool way to die, though, isn't it? Struck down in his prime by a poisonous guitar... Ah rock n' roll!

I like Jaden's mockup as well...

It's also really cool that people are taking the time to make this... it reflects a demand. Great to see Paul's design taking off!

:)

sad to see that the price is so high that people would rather have a custom built!

The seller of the auction has 2 for sale. 1 black swirl, and the other blue swirl.

They would be much more appealing if they came unfinished IMO.

+1, and without that trem routing. I would prefer it with the Gibraltar bridge.

He probably had some Iceman bodies and thinks do it yourselfers are gonna buy and build Firemans. I'll do the smart thing and wait for my name to get to the top of Jaden's list. :)

For those of you looking for a good photo of the FRM2 / the cherry top one with humbuckers...

Image

DiMarzio at work. :)

edit: that is a truly beautiful guitar, and a dynamic presentation.
