Post To PGM or not to PGM?
I've been checking out IbanezRules for the past while, and I've noticed he has a clearance on his PGM301s.

I can get a new one for about $1350 (this is including my estimation of shipping costs, and an inspection + testing from Rich).

Or, I can get a new Ibanez RG1550M for about the same price, except with a much higher quality set up.

I can spend approximately the same for the 1550M as the PGM, and the 1550M has a trem + a much better set up if i get it, or do I get a PGM because I love paul to death, and because It's my 3rd favorite PGM? (#1 is the 500, then the 800 is #2, and of course the 700 is #4)

How comes you think you will get a better setup from other sources?

I'm sure Rich is about as good as it gets with regards to setups.

I'd go for the RG, personally, but it's going to cost you another 200$ when you decide you're sick of the V7-S1-V8 pickups. :P

Forgot to say that If I get the 1550M it'd be from Rich, lawl.

Yeah, Rich is godly when it comes to setups.

In short for, do I get a Platinum set up 1550M from Rich or do I get a Inspected + Tested quality PGM301 from Rich?

I'm leaning a bit on the 1550M mainly because it'd probably play better because of the more detailed setup, and the fact that it has a tremolo, which I'd like to have. It isn't a must, though; I'm not Steve Vai and I don't often play his songs, it's just useful occaisionally.

I'd get the PGM personally because i absolutely LOVE mine to bits. If you're after a simple guitar that sounds and looks good go for it.

I'm not 100% sure on this so don't quote me but I believe the 301 is soon to be going out of production, snap it up whilst you can.

As mentioned the Paf pro's are going to be superior to the V7-S1-V8 pickups.

Yes, I've tried both. (pups)

I've heard the V1-S1-V8 setup.

Personally, I don't really like the pickups that much, and would probably replace it with the same pickups in the 301, except with a Super Distortion in the bridge instead of another PAF Pro.

I am getting the guitar in March, so I'll at least have the chance to see what PGM is reissued, so maybe if Ibanez for whatever reason decides not to be stupid, and price the guitar at a reasonable price, then I'll probably get the reissued PGM. Otherwise, I'll likely just get the PGM301.

When I come to think of it, I really don't have much use for a tremolo. I'll probably just buy myself an HSH J-Custom with a Trem after I get a job.

By the way, are you the guy who has the PGM90th on hold for him? I saw your petition thread, and noticed that the guy who has the PGM90th on hold and you have the same name. If so, then I envy you more than a friend of mine who owns the DNA JEM. The 90th is beautiful 8)

not me lol :)

I highly advise you try the paf pro in the bridge before swapping it out, in my opinion it works brilliantly in the bridge position

ah 'on hold for Anthony' :)

That is indeed my name! But it's not me who has it on hold

I'm getting over the depression of the fireman price as i had my heart set on that guitar so much.

I'm currently saving for a 401 and hoping the 500 gets issued.

That way I'll have Pure shred in the 500 (tone zone and red) Pure class in the 401 (sunburst and vintage air classics) and my PGM301 is more like a collectors item, check here

http://www.racerxband.com/board/viewtop ... 71&start=0

Then that'll be enough PGM's for me ;)

Then i start with a strat/tele/hollow body :P, that will be years away though!

Great plan :)

I'm taking woodworking in highschool (Grade 9/Freshman Year for me next year), and I'm planning on building a Fireman for grade 11/12.

Only problem I can see arising is the neck, 'cause I don't think the Fireman uses any form of wizard.

And yeah, 500 all the way! I voted 112 times for it :p

If you are getting the guitar in march we won't know what will be re-issued. Thats not getting announced till April. Since the 301 is discontinued you are assuming people are not going to buy the last few Rich has in stock before you place your order. He may not have any in stock a few months from now.

Personally I prefer the PGM control layout over the standard RG layout.

Another thing: There's no telling how much longer Ibanez will keep the Edge Pro hanging around. If you wait another few years you'll probably be stuck with the (vastly inferior) Edge Zero.

That's me. :)

He's fixing up the frets for me before he sends it out.

He doesn't have my 401 in yet, I believe.

I did get my PGM10th, tho, since it came from elsewhere. It's a smooth playing guitar, let me tell ya.

Back.

Yeah, it's a tough choice. I doubt Ibanez will keep the Edge Pro around too much longer, I'd give it 3 years at most, most likely 2 or maybe even 1.

I think I'll probably get the PGM301. Paul's signatures are always limited edition, and usually end up being rare in a few years, then eventually get reissued for like twice the price.

The only reason I'd need a Tremolo is for Rhoads-era Ozzy stuff, Pantera, Megadeth and Jason Becker stuff. That, and early Racer X stuff.

I'm in the same situation. :p I'm in love with that yellow/orange 1550M, but since I love PG, I would like to have a PGM too. But I'm waiting to see which PGM they reissue. If they're reissuing the 500, 700 or 800, I'm getting one of them.

Get the 301, you won't be disappointed. You can always grab a different model with a trem later on.

Rich is out of PGM301s.

Yaay. ._.

I suppose I'll just get the 1550M then. If I wanted to buy a PGM here, I'd have to buy it for like $2000CAD with tax, while I could of bought one from Rich for like, $1500CAD with shipping included + a pro setup.

Though, it was pretty stupid of me to think no one would buy them out, mainly because I've never seen an actual PGM in my life, and the only ones I've seen online are on this forum.

I'm probably going to regret not having a PGM301 for like, ever.

God damn you, Labour Laws.
