Post Pickups in the 401?
I had always read that it came with air classics and now the ibanez site says it comes with PAF classics?

Air classics
http://www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_pgm401_tfb.htm
http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/79439

Paf Classics
http://www.ibanez.com/eg/guitar.aspx?m=PGM401

Really wanted the Air classics in this

Off to tesco for 9 hours of fun...

On the dimarzio site, it says that the PAF classics were discontinued, and were replaced by the Air classics. And on the Finnish site, Ibanez says it has the Air classics, so I think that might be an error on the site.

Regardless, they're the exact same pickup.

hehe already have :) really confused at whether the neck is actually thicker than the 301 or its just the neck joint that is thicker?

* Late 80's style Ibanez neck joint. Thick enough for great tone. Angled shape for great access to the upper frets.

* PGM Prestige neck. This neck is beefy enough to deliver the sustain and resonance I want, but still has the playability that Ibanez is famous for. It will allow you to shred, with TONE.

I would have posted it on the boards but everyone seems to hate the 401 :(

These has been my favorite pickups ? :P

Doesn't really bother me :) Paul probably spent ages doing a write up on all his new gear which is more than any other artist does :D

Jenn what's your opinion on my question with regards to the neck? I've made it bold so you can see it :)

Exactly. They don't bug me at all. I was joking about e-mailing Paul about them, because I haven't e-mailed him at all and I was thinking maybe one of you guys were going to prod me about it. hehe.
They were so minor that I took the 3 seconds and edited all of them in my 2 new updates (I had to update 2 blog pages).

Those are:

The PGM 401
* I keep forgetting to add more live shots to that page! DOH!

Regarding the guitar's neck:
Edit - check EKG's post below mine. Perfect answer!

Is this what are are asking?

The 301 has the AANJ (All Access Neck Joint)....no plate.

Image

The 401 has the old late 80's angled square neck joint.

Little something for you to ponder on here Jenn

You know you liked the Dimarzio studded strap Paul uses with the 401?

From Thomann

Ibanez PGM401-TFB, e-guitar, Paul Gilbert Signature, ash body, 5-pcs maple/walnut PGM Prestige neck, rosewood fretboard, 24 medium frets, dot inlays, painted "f-holes", cosmo black hardware, fixed bridge, DiMarzio Air Classic humbuckers, 648 mm scale lenght, color: Trifade Burst, incl. case and leather strap

I've e-mailed Larry asking if it comes with it , when he replies I'll get back to you :)

As the economy drops, the case candy gets better!

It's probably not the rhinestone-studded one. I saw that in the description ages ago too (thanks for reminding me - my thought at the time was "I bet it's just a plain leather strap").

It's probably not DiMarzio branded... just a regular ol' strap. But you never know. :)

Highly doubtful, in 99% of photos I've seen of Paul endorsing the PGM401 he has the dimarzio strap on. My hippie strap cost me £65 but i love it so much I'm considering buying another haha!

Like these two :D

Hi Anthony

Sorry, but the strap included with the guitar is not ours. Ibanez should be able to provide a description of the strap.

The PAF Classic and Air Classic models are fundamentally identical. We've phased out the PAF Classic name in the interest of avoiding redundancy.

Larry Dimarzio
