Are you into Atheist? I heard Cynic and Atheist were fairly close in the early '90s for melodic death.

Yeah, they were. I mean, they still are since the two bands continue to make music. Atheist just released an album, for example. I wouldn't call them melodic death, though, more like very jazz-influenced death metal.

I haven't really listened to much of them, but pretty much every time Cynic comes up in conversation someone recommends Atheist. I'll probably get around to listening to more of them eventually.

Well, all I can say is Rush is one of the most exciting bands to listen to. As much as I love Led Zeppelin, I think Rush made it to my fav. old school band (although Led Zep is older).

Well, I won't be buying anything else for a while. It's a lot of music to listen to already!

You have amassed quite a collection of Rush albums! I'm happy to see that you're discovering their discography. Rush changed my style of playing forever; Geddy Lee is still one of my favorite bassists. Now that you've got some of their finest albums, would you like to compile a "Top 5" list?

I still wanna get stuff from Permanent Waves and Signals before going through a Top 5, but those are my favorites so far (I think):

#1 - 2112
#2 - Moving Pictures
#3 - Hemispheres
#4 - A Farewell to Kings (due to Xanadu, probably my favorite Rush song after 2112)
#5 - Rush

They're such a great band, and the more I listen to them, the more I wanted to be able to write progressive stuff like Xanadu, La Villa Strangiato and Cygnus X-1. Sometimes I feel like quitting guitar. HA

Woah that took you a while!

Got that! If it's what I believe it is, then you've got my favorite version of Sweating Bullets. And that Greatest Hits CD has got tons of cool songs. Angry Again, Symphony Of Destruction of course, The Mechanix and way more. Enjoy the ride.

Yeah back in the day I was never a huge Metallica fan (or Megadeth) but lately I've been getting into them more and more...

"Hanger 18" is just friggin SICK MAN !!! "Prince of Darkness" is cool too.... Mechanix is just ok, considering its Daves version of "The 4 Horsemen" which is one of my all time fave Metallica songs, I just think it sounds better/heavier slower.....

Yeah Hangar 18 is super cool. Lot's of nice solos from Marty Friedman, and the riffs and vocals are also all good. The whole Rust In Peace album is awesome in my opinion, it's got the super cool Tornado Of Souls which features my favorite Megadeth solo, and other less famous songs I love are there especially Dawn Patrol a very short but very dark song.

I'm looking at the track list right now, other songs I strongly recommend are:
Skin O My Teeth: cool riff and solo
Peace Sells
And finally the end of Wake Up Dead has got a great riff and solo although I don't really like the rest of the song.
