What in the world inspired you to go see them??
That's cool if you're into bands like that, but I just don't get the attraction to that stuff.

Cannibal Corpse - The Wretched Spawn 2004
I got a sheer joy out of having this CD with me in the car. The cover art alone is enough to make this garbage can filler, but the death vocals are horrible. What the hell happens to a person to create such trash like this? Who buys this and how brain damaged can you be to like this? Who the fuck signed these guys to a label? Metal Blade, huh? The sheer joy I had was accellerating to 80mph and whipping this goddamn awful piece of shit out the window!

ya, i;m not even into bands like that at all. But 2 of the bands that played were locals, and was there to support them as i'm friends with them. I like my metal, but not death metal. In flames, soilwork, lamb of god, killswitch. Thats more my style.

I know never to send YOU a cd :o

Moving on, I havent heard them (doesnt sound as if i want to). I'm not a fan of Death Metal in general. Bodom are about the only band i can listen to with Death Metal vocals...although technically they could be classed as prog...or something similar...i forget the word
The instrumentals in Death Metal are great but if someone starts singing im outta there.
That's just my personal opinion. In fact i can see the attraction, but it really isnt me.

I believe they're categorized as "grindcore."

Blastbeat drums, noisy as hell, thrashy guitars, dark riffs, sometimes complex melodies, Cookie Monster vocals... and mud up to the wazoo.

I personally dont like them at all... but I have friends that do!

I don't mind some 'grindcore' or whatever you want to refer to it as.
I tend not to classify bands as being a certain type of music... because it seems to rule out any diversity the band might have (although some bands arn't very diverse, to be honest :P )

I have a rule for it though... It's gotta be at least a bit melodic :)

i think cannibal corpse are quite funny. it must be cool to chat to the "singer" in regular life. "hey dude what's happening" "Ruuuuurrrrrghhhhhhhh!!!!!" "oh cool"

i quite like some of dimmu borgir and children of bodom's tunes, mainly the rocking ones (ignore the lyrics) or the extra apocalyptic soundtrack-to-armageddon type ones. other than that my opinion is usually meh.

Being an old-school thrash and death metal freak, i actually like some of CC's stuff. Sometimes i just want to hear something really brutal and noisy. And the lyrics are funny as hell.

But i can't stand CoB or Dimmu Borgir. Cliché thrash guitar riffs with cheesy keyboard parts over them. And the lyrics are corny as hell. Just not my cup of tea.

I LIVE for cheesy keyboard parts. In fact, any cheesy tunes are good. It sounds ridiculous to talk of such sacrilege on the Racer X forum, but i can't help but love tunes that are 'so bad they're good'.

As I said, I generally ignore the lyrics to death/black metal tunes. I can't really tell what is being said, and I'm sure if I found out I would just feel ill. Reading the lyrics to my bro's CarcASS (:D) cd (which he was given and has been trying to offload on me) is like a thesaurus entry on nasty words.
It's funny the first time. And, ok, maybe the other times too.

Hey, i like some 80´s synthpop too! Falco rules, "Alles klar, herr kommissar?"... :D

BTW, Falco died in the coolest way ever; a car accident in the Sahara desert...
That's a cool way to go out...

Carcass has some of the sickest/funniest lyrics ever. :D
But their later albums (from Necroticism onward) have some killer riffing going on.

I thought that was very cool too. The song was "Hammer Smashed Face", btw.
