Post New Megadeth Song
From Blabbermouth

MEGADETH: New Song Available For Download - May 7, 2004

A brand new MEGADETH song, entitled "Kick the Chair", has been posted at this location.

"Kick the Chair" comes off the group's as-yet-untitled new album, tentatively due in September through Sanctuary Records.

Commented MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine: "This is for the 95% of the people here who are my friends ā€” the people who, even if they don't agree, they are still decent. This is for the people here who set us apart from the rest of the net, all of the fan sites, chat rooms, and forums.

"This is for you, my fans ā€” because after this, there will be no more doubt who I am.

"This version of 'Kick The Chair' is a final mix, but is not the 'master' that will be on the new record.

"Please enjoy this and know that I love you all, even the assholes."

The complete track listing for the forthcoming MEGADETH CD is as follows:

01. Blackmail The Universe
02. Shadow Of Death
03. My Kingdom
04. Of Mice And Men
05. Truth Be Told
06. The Scorpion
07. Kick The Chair
08. Something That Iā€™m Not
09. Tears In A Vial
10. Die Dead Enough
11. Back In The Day

"Kick the Chair" Lyrics:

Kick The Chair
Dawn breaks evenly today
On the truth and the lie
All rise, court's in session
We're hanging someone high

Justice means nothing today
Now that the courts are for sale
Pick a crime from the menu, pick a sentence and defend you
And pay up the down payment called bail
The system's for sale

Kick the chair, the rope's tight
Just like one quick wrench, the tooth is out
Friend or foe, I gotta hang 'em dead
Or they'll come back around
Kick it!

The court's wrong when it keeps track
Of victories and defeats
The press that never rest just waits
For somebody's soul they can eat

Justice means nothing today
Now that the jury's for sale
Guilty or not, the verdict's a lie
You're going to jail
The system has failed

Kick the chair, the rope's tight
Just like one quick wrench, the tooth is out
Friend or foe, ya gotta hang em dead
Or they'll come back

If you're thinking that comment is some sales gimmick....Wrong. The difference in the sound of the songs on Getting Heavier POST MIX-PRE MASTER was substantial to the final Mastered version.

Yeah, I listened to it a bunch after he posted that. Pretty nice stuff. Looking forward to the record, which he said is due in September.

So Polands back in the band then? I wonder who's on drums. I'm guessing and hoping it's Nick Menza.

vinnie coliuta?

wasnt he the drummer for the mothers of invention before terry bozzio??
that would make him not particularly young(50's maybe) im prolly wrong but i know vinnie is an awesome drummer.

I think it was more CTE type thing, but thats just me. Seemed rough, but not exactly thrashing like RIP did. Good anyway, but I do prefer a lot of their other songs over it.

As far as Dave talked, this isn't exactly Megadeth restored. These guys aren't permanent members. The bassist and drummer are said to be sessionalists who just come in for the recording for people, like hired hands for solo workers I guess. Poland came in to help with the guitar stuff, but Ohm is doing nicely for him, so he probably wont be back for good. Dave did mention that they said they'd be interested in doing a small tour thing, like playing in certain locations, but I doubt the band is anything more than temporary.

No real word on why the other members arent playing, though we know that Menza wanted to. Ellefson probably didnt because he had just started a band called F5 and Marty just wasnt interested, most likely. That's my guess. Im still confused over the Menza thing, because Dave didnt sound mad at him when he referred to him.

It sounds pretty good; but like Wisdom said, it isnt quite at the level that Rust in Peace was. I would be very satisfied if Dave Mustaine would go back and listen to all of his earlier recordings, especially Countdown and Youthanasia, and then make music based on that. I think he sort of did that here, and Im sure he listened to the fans who wanted music that resembles the earlier years of Megadeth, but I dont think Dave FULLY achieved that. I'll have to listen to the rest of the album, though, to make my decision FINAL.

That being said though, this is definitely heading in the right direction. This album might not do it, but I am sure that (further down the road) the next Megadeth album(s) will be very much like the Rust in Peace/Countdown/Youthanasia era that I most of us like so much.

I dont see Friedman joining Mustaine to make music, though. I remember hearing Marty saying that he just got 'tired of play that music,' and that is why he chose to quit. Like Metal Liberty said, David Ellefson just formed a band called F5. Its unlikely that right now, David will reunite with Mustaine.
