Anyone have Satch's new album? I just picked it up today(along with tons of other stuff), and I must say...DAMN good. I already like it more than 'Strange Beautiful Music'......what about you guys? The album is pretty trippy, I'd like to hear your guys' take on it....

I really like it. I love his sound. It seems like he really enjoyed making this one. I think this is the best one....maybe cuz it's new ;-)

I've been a fan of Joe for 17 years now and on his 14th CD he continues to deliver the musical grooves. 11 tracks, over 58 mins of mostly midtempo melodies and head bobbin' tunes. Joe's music is instantly accessable and warm. Nobody sounds like him and he shows us again why he's king of the instrumental heap. Two slow tracks, and also two tracks with his slightly enhanced vocals work well in breaking up the disc. The only uptempo song "I like Rain" has a quick boogie to it as Joe sings "I like the rain coming down on me".
Most of the songs pick up where his last studio CD left off. The notable 10 min long "Searching" gives him time to go off into guitar god land along with bassist Matt Bissonette and drummer Jeff Campitelli. Catchy melodies, some grooves and tasteful solos make it a solid release. I'd put it just a tiny bit below the last one. Ideally I'd have liked more variation in tempo, more varied guitar ideas (some tapping ala "midnight, bluesy or oddities) but it's a mature and polished release and a must have for Satch fans. No surprises.
If you dug "Strange Beautiful Music - 2002" then this is for you. I like it!

Great CD. I love "Lifestyle", "Gnaahh", and "Hands In The Air." Definitely a better CD than Strange Beautiful Music. I do wish there were more uptempo rockers and fewer slow tunes, but I definitely think it's a classic Satriani CD. If you're a Satriani fan, you won't be disappointed.

I have listened to it about 3 times now. So far, I find most of it BORING. Satch is a great player and is so good live, but damn, his last few discs are pretty weak. Crystal Planet was the last CD of his I really dug. Oh well.

The guitar work on it is top notch. I just thought it sounded to much like him playing to a drum machine. There didn't seem to be any interaction between the musicians on the CD, more or less "lay down a beat and let me play".

After several listens nothing has really stood out from the rest.

Hey, that's just my $0.02.

Jason

I'll admit that Crystal Planet was his last break through in my opinion. None the less I really like his newest one, much more than Strange Beautiful Music too.

Better than Strange Beautiful Music, but still pretty boring.

The problem i have with most of Satriani's work is the lack of decent songwriting. A couple of rhytm riffs, and a solo over them. Woohoo!

I really liked SBM, I don't get why so many people bash it. Yeah it's really different from Crystal Planet (the CD that sparked my interest in soloing/shred/whatever aka: awesome too) but it's still a great CD. Starry Night - Awesome song. I heard soem clips off this new album and I got the same kinda vibe as SBM, and the stuff sounded cool for me. I'll have to hear more before I actually buy it though.
