Post Yngwie Malmsteen - Spellbound
We all know Yngwie hasn't done anything new or innovative since the 80's, but this time, although again the music is similar to all the other stuff he has done, and feels uninspired, I gotta mention the fact that he has played every instrument on that album.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2NyYKQcpI0

How many musicians have recorded a metal album, and played drums, bass, and guitars ? And sung the vocals ? He's also a pretty good drummer by the way.

Again, there isn't anything truly original or amazing, but personally I salute the effort, and the fact that Yngwie has explored the neo-classical genre to the point that he can do his albums alone.

Anyway, think what you like of the music, I still listen to it everynow and then, some good old generic Yngwie metal is alright sometimes, though I can't seem to get past the first song of the album.

Speaking of doing his albums alone : is Yngwie having financial difficulties ?
I mean he is doing this album alone... is he cutting costs ? Musically, he isn't putting out anything really new, and everyone is getting bored of his stuff, the title track of his album only got around 40 000 views of youtube. I lately heard about him selling many of his guitars, etc. Anyway, I'm not too concerned with Yngwie's financial situation, but hey, I only wish good to other people, I hope he isn't doing too bad. Then again, he should be alright.

Thoughts ?

No one else is there to screw up his very singular artistic vision.

Here are a few Metal bands that have one member singing and playing all of the instruments...

Edge of Sanity
Bathory
Diabolical Masquerade
Xasthur
Nightingale
Nortt
The Ruins of Beverast

Just to name a few. Then if you were expand it out to hard rock, industrial, alternative, etc…

Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters)
Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails)
Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins)
Shawn Lane
Robert Smith (The Cure)
Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age)
J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.)

Again, just to name a few. Then if you were to expand that out to more generally known popular artists…

Prince
Lenny Kravitz
Phil Collins
Stevie Wonder
Paul McCartney
Todd Rundgren

Etc, etc, etc

Didn't know the list was so long : then again with Shawn Lane, he programmed the drums, and didn't play them... or am I mistaken ?

Do all the artists you listed genuinely play every instrument, or program some of them ?

Not trying to be a dick with you LoQ, just being genuinely curious. ;)

You're not coming off as a dick so no worries. 8) (Hopefully I didn't come off as one either)

You bring up a good point about Shawn Lane (programming as opposed to playing), so now I'm not so sure about him to be honest. The rest of the ones I listed do play drums (especially Dave Grohl har har har :P).

...and he played everything on his very first solo record 'McCartney' (with the exception of some of Linda's backing vocals of course  )

Richie Kotzen plays all instruments on some of his albums- at least on his latest.
Nicke Andersson (ex-Hellacopters) on the first Imperial State Electric Album

Ok, for Dave Grohl...

Barrett Jones sang backing vocals on the song "Petrol CB" on the Pocketwatch demo and Greg Dulli played the guitar solo on the song "X-Static" on the first Foo Fighters album.
