Post Cacophony
I looked up the searchy but didn't find a thread quite exactly like mine.

I just wanted to say I came this close to finding a band as awesome as Racer X. The reason why I still prefer the X is because the non guitarist members of Cacophony aren't as awesome as the non guitarist members of Racer X.

But Cacophony is now my second favorite band in the world, what do you guys think about that band?

And for advice... what album do you reckon I should definitly start with?

I love em, and I own their discography (both albums lol).

Def start with Speed metal symphony. It´s an overall better package than Go Off!.

Concerto is still one of the best metal instrumentals to date.

Well, basically it's just the singer that sucks.

And to answer your question: You need both albums, both are filled with essential songs that every shred fan needs

I still reckon RX has the world's best metal drummer ever, and I'm still looking for a song in which the bass shreds along with the guitars. Juan can shred.

Finally I agree, Jeff sings way lot better than the cacophony dude.

The singer just sucks!

it`s a very good example of an "unballanced" band

All the focus in Cacophony is in the guitar parts anyways, so I don't think they ever was arsed about him being a crap singer! Where My Fortune Lies, Desert Island and Concerto are their greatest moments imo! A very cool band, and LOTS of AMAZING playing to gain!

DUDE. If anyone in this world disagrees they really need to open their ears. I can honestly say that Cacophony has THE WORST "professional" singer of any band I listen to.

Besides the singer I love Cacophony, the instrumental bits are some of the most beautiful shred compositions ever written IMO. I just can't stand the vocals. :?

I was referring to the singer, BTW. Of course the guitars are so awesome :P

Chris impellitteri's singer on the system X album is just as bad as the cacophony singer.

I hate their voices... they just blow.

The ninja is definitely my favourite song by any band at the moment. BTW, do you have any of Jason Beckers solo stuff because if you don't you should definitely listen to some.

On a different note, i never knew Marty Friedman was any good until i heard cacophony, he should get back into the cacophony stuff

Carbon,

That´s BLASPHEMY.

Marty´s work on Megadeth is superb.

He outdoes his work on every album.

On Rust In Peace, he shreds things to the maximum. Hangar 18, Tornado Of Souls, Holy Wars, 5 Magics, Lucretia...are a few example of how to combine shred with melody and good taste.

Then, on Countdown to Extinction, he still shreds, but with a more accessible tone. He adds more "song-work" on his solos, and is just a thing to hear his work on songs like Skin O My Teeth, Foreclosure Of A Dream, High Speed Dirt and Ashes In Your Mouth.

After, in Youthanasia, his work has a more "live" feeling, and the solos seem improvised, which is very fresh and cool. Solos in tunes like Addicted To Chaos, A Tout Le Monde, The Killing Road and Family Tree proves it.

And, to end his work in Megadeth, his solos on Cryptic Writings and Risk are a mix of his duties on CTE and Y.

He is an AWESOME guitar player, and has one of the most creative uses of melodies, bending and phrasing.

Of course, I´m referring now to his work with Megadeth. Analyzing his solo work would be subject from another topic...

don´t forget his solo albums, there´s basically three of them that all guitar players should own:

Loudspeaker
Introduction
Scenes

3 amazing records.

Carbon, that kind of excuses you from your awful blasphemy

Boligan: If I had to recommend Marty´s solo records, in order, they would be:

1. Dragon´s Kiss
2. Music For Speeding
3. Scenes
4. True Obsessions
5. Introduction
6. Loudspeaker

I find Loudspeaker very boring actually. The heavy stuff on DK/MFS is much much better IMHO.

I don't know if you know that the guy singing on System X is legendary rock vocalist Graham Bonnet (Rainbow, Alcatrazz and tons more). His singing is superb for a rock singer that is 60 years old.

You should listen to the "Stand In Line" Impellitteri album, it also features Graham Bonnet on vocals, but he was much younger back then (1988).
The songs "Stand in line" and "Secret lover" are absolutely kickass.
