Post The Day That Never Comes
I know there's a lot of anti-Metallica people out there, but if you're a fan or if you're willing to give them another chance, here's their first Death Magnetic single: The Day That Never Comes

mms://wm.elektra.com/metallica/metallic ... rack04.asf

I'm an avid Metallica fan and this song did something that no song since Enter Sandman has done for me -- Make my arm, neck, and leg hairs stand on end!

Avoiding the midi intro, the song is very decent, specially from minute 4 and beyond. Before that, sounds like "Until It Sleeps 2".

I´m expecting a lot more from this record!!

And, yes, this song alone owned everything on St. Anger.

More comments:

Good solo by Kirk...no wah!, which impressed me a lot.

Ulrich sounds as he can´t keep up with the band, he´s becoming a lousy player IMHO.

I think the song may have been a bit shorter though...too many chords on it.

No way dude... this song doesn't even come close to the Metal Pounding of "Frantic", "St. Anger" or "Invisible Kid".... :?

and as for Kirks solo..... YUCK!!! :x

I must admit, I am a little bit biased being a big Metallica fan and all, but hopefully other people will find it to be a good tune.

Well, St. Anger for me was just a "almost metal" record. It just sounds awful. It sure has some good riffs, but the songs become lame, boring, excessively repetitive, with no melody and no memorable moments as a whole album.

This is just sounding better, sounding like Metallica, and bringing back a band that, for me, has just been profiting (and forgot about metal) for the last 18 years.

The first 4 minutes are lame. After that it picks up and isn't half bad. Kirk sounds like he's struggling a little with the solo.

Overall I'd give it a D-. Ignoring the first half, I'd give it a B-.

Doc,

You're being too nice....that song SUCKED big time. I don't wanna hear anything new by them again. Every cd up to the Black album rocked....since then.....(makes fart noise with my mouth).

I feel like there's a lot of unnecessary drum fills like at 3:40. Dunno, might be just me.

The song's alright. 5.5/10 for me. The solo is cool. Not his coolest, but at least the solos are back. The song as a whole is not as badass as their older stuff though.

Oh yeah. The drums sound better than St. Anger

I thought it was alright. The first couple minutes as have been said were pretty painful, but it picked up and unfortunately didn't keep picking up. I got excited at the 4 minute mark when things changed but they stayed the same for the rest of the song. The solo was really weak IMO and overall it just wasn't amazing. Better than anything else i've heard from Metallica in recent years though.

Has anyone ever really expected a solo in a Metallica song to be "amazing" ??? :?

Im really not a Metallica fan, but i kinda didnt mind it at first.

Then it struck me that the song in general was just kind of lame.

They've done a few things that I've thoroughly enjoyed. "The Unforgiven" solo comes to mind. I thought the song was alright, and I liked the chorus, as well as the harmony parts, but yes, the solo was a bit weak. I'll listen to a few more studio tracks and decide whether it's worth spending my money on them, but that by itself is not going to do it.

My friend said, "It sounded like they recycled parts of that from older songs. They need to stop writing new material."

When I said overall it just wasn't amazing, I meant overall the song wasn't amazing. Sorry I should've been more specific.

I agree it sounds like they just recycle old songs. They'll never top the first couple cds but people will still buy their stuff.. so why not try? I bet it gets boring playing the same old stuff anyway.

EXACTLY !!!

That's why IMO "St Anger" was cool... Nothing on that album sounded "recycled" like all the 90's CRAP they did (Load, Reload, Garage Days, etc)... It was the first album since the Black Album that had some cool kick ass Heavy Riffage on it... SO WHAT if it didn't have any solos on it, I for one am not a huge fan of KH's solos anyway, and yes the production was different (especially the drum sound) but there was still some kick ass heavy shit that reminded me of the Metallica of old moreso than anything else they had done recently... 8)

St. Anger sucks. Alex is the only one who didn't get the memo.

The new song is ok. Better than anything off St. Anger. I'll give it a C.

What is the deal with the boring as hell production? Listen to the drum sound and chugging rythm guitar sound of Black Album. Metallica DOES have the money to make a great sounding record.

As for the song; listenable.
