Post Ronnie Montrose on Metallica
AMEN brother..

Here is why Metallica was so pissed about Napster and P2P
downloading:

It meant that they would have to go back to the old way of
making money, TOURING. With advent of MTV, groups who you
never heard of made money just by getting a video made and
played on MTV.

Now that their records sales are back to where the were in the
70's and record executives are pissed that the gravy train
in now gone. Guess if they want to make money again they will
have to work for it..... get the fuck out and tour like groups
had to 30 years ago:

I love Montrose, but he's dead wrong.

VERY few toured harder than Metallica.

Back in the day....Metallica hasn't toured that much since Black. They've gone years between road outings.

I think he means in General....not Metallica specifically. As some one who was alive and going to concerts 30 years ago.

In the Bay Area...we had 6..yes 6 DAY ON THE GREEN concerts at the Oakland Colliseum with 60,000 people every summer. It was common to see Nugent, AC/DC, Skynyrd, Aerosmith, KISS, Styx, Blue Oyster Cult, Pat Travers, Boz Scaggs, RUSH, Boston, etc...all come through town every summer.

I used to look in the San Francisco Chronicle Sunday Paper in the "PINK" section to see who was announcing they were coming.

That effectively stopped in the late 80's.....

Correct me if i'm wrong, but
Metallica didn't form or have a record deal until 1981, so what 70's sales is he talking 'bout :?:

Like I said....He mentions Metallica specifically at the beginning....but really, he's talking about music in general.

He was guitarist in Montrose, Gamma, and some other bands.

He also played with Van Morrison, Gary Wright, Dan Hartman, and various other people.

He's right you know (Ronnie). Any real muscian wouldn't care about people downloading (in other words: LISTENING) to their music at all. And, every true rocker would prefer touring, not sitting in the studio.

Btw; Thanks for not making me revive this thread

LOL, the first thing i thought when i started reading this topic was "who's Ronnie Montrose", of course now I'd just search for it and the only thing I could relate to is the name Sammy Hagar...
