LOUDNESS released a 25th-anniversary box set in Japan in April 2007, entitled "Loudness Complete Box", featuring its complete Columbia Records catalog. The package includes the following albums: "The Birthday Eve" (1981), "Devil Soldier" (1982), "The Law Of Devil's Land" (1983), "Disillusion" (Japanese and English versions) (1984), "Thunder In The East" (1985), guitarist Akira Takasaki's solo album "Tusk of Jaguar" (1982), drummer Munetaka Higuchi's solo album "Hakai Gaisen Roku", the "Loudness" and "Eurobounds" DVDs, and a singles CD compilation, entitled "Single Collection", featuring unreleased tracks. All CDs have been remastered and come in a deluxe box featuring a plastic case and replica tickets.

LOUDNESS' latest album, "Breaking the Taboo", was released in December 2006 via Tokuma Communications. The band also issued a live DVD, entitled "Loudness in America 06: Live Shocks World Circuit 2006 Chapter 1", on August 23, 2006. The disc features footage from the band's North American tour, which took place in early 2006.

The sound files are here:

Shows some promise. I liked the chorus of "Metal Mad". It reminded me of some songs off Disillusion. It sounds heavy so far, but that's not necessarily what will make or break the album for me. I want to hear hooks and riffs that are "keepers".

They are going for a "classic '80s metal single" with "Metal Mad"... As Ozzy would say - "I don't know." Too generic for me, but, there is always the rest of the album.
Hope it will be up to par with Racing (my favorite post-reunion album).

I like the new sound. More complex and fun sounding, less Pantera anger. I really enjoyed RACING, but, the vocals were burried too much. At least on the new stuff (so far), the singer's voice is loud and understandable and Akira SHREDS!!!!!!

Not too crazy about the beginning of the solo.

I really tried to get into Loudness. I liked the melodies and structures of the song, but never really liked his voice. :( .

if you don't like the japanese singer's voice, then get the "soldier of fortune" album. mike vescera (obsession, yngwie malmsteen) sings on that record. also- the guitarwork on "soldier.." is very racer x-ish...alot of paul gilbert patterns, sweep arpeggios and a few tight+fast harmony runs.

Yeah, he had better ones on Racing, actually on some "old" songs (Terror, "City Of Vampire" and Spiritual Canoe "The End Of Earth") he played great tapping solos, nothing compared with 80's era but they were pretty decent...

Is it just me, or does it sound like '80s metal bands that are still around today are down-tuning their guitars? It sounds like down-tuning is the new trend.

That's Minoru Niihara. I like his voice. He can still sing the older songs, but I think he needed to change his style to adapt to Akira Takasaki's playing. I think Niihara is better suited to pop. Loudness' Shadows of War (1986) is more commercial sounding than their previous albums, but showcases Niihara's vocals rather well.

Here's Mike Vescera, singing "Crazy Doctor" with Loudness post-Niihara.

Same song. Here's Loudness in 1992 after Niihara was dismissed and Masaki Yamada from E-Z-O was brought in.

Upcoming LOUDNESS shows:

Oh man, Higuchi is a truly underrated musician. Great pocket drummer. I hope he recovers from this.
